SANFL clubs AFL listed players

Postby am Bays » Wed Sep 13, 2006 10:25 am

This has been sparked my Mals roulette wheel thread but I would be interested in knowing how many players from each SANFL club are on an AFL list? Would give an a good indication on which clubs are good at developing players or have been lucky that good players are in their zone....

The Snouts can count 16 ex Glenelg players currently on AFL lists (doesn't include players such as Mahoney and Willits who have come to Glenelg becasue they have been recruited by Adelaide or Port Power, or Redden who has been cut).

I notice that Punky listed 12 ex North players on current AFL lists.

Interesting to know what the tally is for the other seven clubs....cue Spelly....

Pretty sure we have 22 listed throughout the AFL. Will try to find it and respond later.

Related to this thread on BigFooty.

By my count, Norwood has about 16 (inc rookies), excluding all of the 'draft allocatees'. Making a side out of them (with 'top-ups' of the club's existing SANFL players) is more fun than just listing 'em.

we counted Clarke, which is incorrect as he did come from South, we didn't count Redden as he's been given a DCM. We also included Logan as he did play for us a junior so he is one of ours, coming from Mundulla and attending our junior country programs before he went to the NT and got drafted from Waratahs.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I make the totals:

1 West 22
2 Port 19
3 Eagles 17
4 Norwood 16
5 Glenelg 15
6 Centrals 13
7 North 12
8 South 10
8 Sturt 10

No offence I am surprised West are top, my money was on Port because of 7 Port Magpies players being at Port Power

I think West are reaping the benefits of their junior development program, particularly from late 90's to early 00's there.

Westies have had a plethora of draftees in the past few years. A large part of why they are down the bottom this year in my opinion. By the looks of it, they could have 2-3 this year as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't two re-zonings ago West got a large slice of the old South zone (Flagstaff hill), while South was pushed further South into the growth areas of Seaford?

The AFL parasites have reaped the benefits not Westies.
They are bottom of the SANFL coincidently.

They gained Flagstaff Hill, Aberfoyle Park & surrounding suburbs (I reckon it stops at Happy Valley though- Wedgie's kids went to a clinic involving South playes, I think Cupido ate some kids at the clinic though!)

Judging by the picture in "What the" thread, if they wore white "tights" instead of blue, Cupido's ar5e could double as a scren at the Noarlunga Cinema complex......

Not that he is an orphan as my deriere is ample but I ain't trying to play League footy.....
