SANFL SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
In front of a full contingent of media and SANFL club representatives, the SANFL yesterday launched its 2006 SANFL ‘be active’ Finals Series at SA Brewing’s Tower Bar.
In his introduction, Executive Commissioner, Leigh Whicker stated that “we are embarking upon a finals series which is the culmination of one of the most competitive seasons of SANFL in a number of yearsâ€.
Highlights of the 2006 home and away season include:
• An exciting, attacking brand of football being delivered by our coaches and players resulting in:
- an average of 30 goals scored per match
- teams breaking the 100-point threshold in over 50% of matches
• The popularity of this brand of football has been reflected in an increase in attendances by 3.5% this season
• A record scheduling of 13 night matches which proved to be a hit with the fans particularly at Hamra Homes Oval and Coopers Stadium
• The introduction of theme rounds including the “Return to the ‘70s†round providing fans entertainment on and off the field
On behalf of the South Australian Football Commission and the 9 League clubs, Mr Whicker thanked all SANFL supporters who made the commitment to attend matches and support their teams.
