Have decided to put together a SANFL top 100 for the 2006 season. It is solely based on my opinion so im not expecting everyone, or anyone to agree with it. Ive tried to be as fair as possible, basing it on games ive seen this year.

Osullivan could be a lot higher, I think he will pip Slade for the
best and fairest at Centrals.

A guy called Owen Weatherly from North ADELAIDE was awesome
until injured, this guy is a sensation.

MY TOP 5

HAYNES
J CLAYTON
CICOLELLA
BACKWELL
number 5 ?

I'm not going to criticise Macca, top effort and great work sticking your neck out. I assume you haven't seen many games outside of those Port were involved in?

I would have Chris Gowans higher than James Gowans and O'Sullivan would be in the top 15-20 players in the league IMHO. Of course, I haven't seen any that didn't involve Centrals so my opinion is as skewed as your own!

As I said, great work, hopefully a good debate to follow...

I think he is nothing more than a dark horse mal. He is the type of player to catch the eye of an umpire, but I fear that he has been either in a disappointing team or swamped by others in most games this year. It would be a brave man to tip against Clayton this year, from all I have heard.

Good work Macca. I would have the following Eagles players in the top 100 in this order:

Inkster
Cicolella
Lindsay
McKenzie
Passador
Powell
Treeby
Rugolo
P Fiacchi
Colville
Pedler
Cooper
Grocke
Westbrook
Symmons
Jarrad

its a tough gig mate but I thought you were harsh on Chambers (for what its worth  ), should be much higher, especially higher than OKeefe, I would struggle to have OKeefe in there, it took half the season for him to get going, had a purple patch for about 6 games then missed the last game with injury
then would come Nelson, Curtis, Whiteman and Hurley (about where you had them), no others though
I thought you were kind on Colreavy as well, I thought he has struggled for us this year and Sticks didnt seem to want to give him too much game time :?

but overall good effort from what I have seen this year

Top work, Macca - a great starting point for discussion!

If enough people comment on which players should be higher/lower etc. maybe we could come up with a sort-of semi-official "SAFooty Top 100" :?:

I can only really comment on the Glenelg players.

The most obvious suggestions would be
 have Rogers lower (or not at all)
 find room for Jeff Smith and Trevor Cranston - I presume most Bays fans would rate them above Rogers and Duldig (who were both dropped during the season)

Not a criticism but how did you come up with the list? Did you look at how many times certain players got in the best players?

I think Gill has been injured a lot and had a few quieter games. Lucky to be that high. I think you are right with Younie being Norths highest.

Again, it takes a lot of effort to come up with one of these lists. A lot needs to be considered in it, and you've done another fine job.

But I can see a few people would question where you've put Chambers, though.

Didnt look at best players as a basis for the positions but did look at a few players just to confirm some things. Just went through the budgets and put down who I thought would make the list then went from there, comparing players and who I thought had a better year than each other and so forth.

Its not perfect, when writing it out on here I did notice a couple of things that I thought could be changed. Gill is probably a little too high and Davey a little too low.

Was not included because of injury along with Eichner, Rugolo, Steinberner, Bassett and a couple of others.

I think Roger for first half season was brilliant then started to go down until dropped to twos. I do agree Smithy and Cranny should be up there in top few bays players.

My top 10 bays players this year.

McConnell
Backwell
Smith
Mitchell
Sherwood
Cranny
Moore
Panozza
Duldig
Rogers (Fisher prehaps unlucky to miss out but had been injured for a while)
