Nine-a-side could be an option. I remember a tournament between the SANFL clubs at Wayville many years ago.

Played a few games myself in the '90s with a few work mates against Div 3 sides. We always got hammered twelve ways to Christmas but had fun, they went easy on us most of the time. :D

That nine a side competition is the last senior competition North have won. It must have been about 1994. All I remember is that Brett Mancini captained the side.

When I was very, very young there was a summer night competition, the Advertiser Cup. I don't know whether it was a preseason cup or whether it was played in the middle of summer. It was played around 1959-60 when I was 5 years old so I only have very vague memories of it.

We can always call for a 52 week season.

Great idea, let's make a whole lot of part-time footballers work harder for their measly financial rewards and put further financial strain on clubs that can least afford it.

Brilliant!

At least they would be fitter when the next season starts, they wouldnt get the chance to slacken off between seasons. :D

You would also see more injuries and more players breaking down. The need and deserve a break.

It's not the worst idea if there was any inclination to make the SANFL league competition be noticed and stand on its own two feet. It would have to be in place of the winter comp. A shortened season starting in October and finished by early Feb. 8 teams, 14 Rounds, 3 weeks of finals. Probably need slightly shorter games and increased numbers on the bench.

Winter could be Underage comps including U23 which plays against the AFL Reserves teams.

Good thinking.

Let's make the ball round, put a horizontal post between the goal post and award "overs" and "unders". Put small pieces of cloth on the players shorts ( attached by velcro ) that can be grabbed by opponents and thrown in the air for a "Gotchya".
