Thought I'd start something in a particular thread to highlight exactly where we are at. These are all to the first week of May:
Year Average
1997: 4016 (20 matches, to Rd 5)
1998: 4204 (23, Rd 6)
1999: 3839 (23, Rd 6)
2000: 3322 (35, Rd 9)
2001: 4193 (23, Rd 6)
2002: 3887 (23, Rd 6)
2003: 3440 (23, Rd 6)
2004: 3575 (19, Rd 5)
2005: 3273 (23, Rd 6)
2006: 3315 (23, Rd 6)
2007: 3330 (19, Rd 5)
2008: 3440 (24, Rd 6)
2009: 3270 (24, Rd 6)
2010: 3693 (24, Rd 6)
2011: 3791 (19, Rd 5)
2012: 3349 (26, Rd 7)
2013: 3407 (24, Rd 6)
2014: 3635 (20, Rd 5)
2015: 2807 (22, Rd 5)

Yep I suspected as much. This year the hype, passion and interest just seems to have vanished more so that any other year. Not sure whether it was the start of the season later on in the year, the fact the first round was split rather than featuring all teams, the weather or something else.

Going forward, I just cannot see this crowd situation improving which will be incredibly sad. I don't believe for a second that any of the officials could say hand on heart that the introduction of the Power/Crows has been a success.

Like to see the argument against these stats from the AFL numpties.
Pretty black and white to me, its a resounding failure, pi55 off to the amateur league

Depends on how you look at it. The Power/Crows will say it's a success although that's largely intangible./immeasureable.

I can completely understand people being upset about talk of a second tier national comp but when you look at it, our local comp attracts just 11k a week to games. It' s not sustainable and something has to change.

Spot on, VFL like crowds are just around the corner. Will be the norm to get 1200 to a game

You could see this coming from a mile away !

Sad that the other clubs who voted for it to happen are now bringing South and Central down with the sinking ship !

Give yourselves a clap =D>

Can we see the weekly attendance at Adelaide Oval / Footy park with the average attendance figures.
I think you will see a direct relationship. I predict there is a stable weekly fixed number of people attending matches in Adelaide . If AFL number goes up, SANFL number total goes down.

Also I think SANFL marketing is very poor. Get people excited about local footy! It is special to see real footy, with real players.
Bring back the choc-ice and pasty sellers ! Allow the esky back. But ... please, please , please improve our stock of umpires!

i disagree. last season the "pro" afl reserves people were happy stating crowds were up on 2013, at the same time that adelaide oval was sold out every weekend (from memory it was pretty much sold out wasnt it?) you cant get more people to the afl every week than the stadium can hold this season, so therefore there must be less people attending footy this year with the dramatic drop in sanfl crowds.

funnily enough, the "anti" afl reserves people pointed out the novelty factor last season, and that once it had worn off, reserves attendances would drop (we even saw evidence of the fact between early season attendances and the drop to late season attendances for the reserves sides), but we were told we were doomsayers and pessimists. funnily enough, it seems we were right. also funnily enough the "pro" reserve people are strangely silent on attendances this season.........

Spelly, would you happen to have average attendance figures for Port H&A games over say the last 5 years, up til now?

I'm going to hasten a guess it has not dropped as much as the over all attendances have. Purely a guess.

I have no idea either mate, hence the interest. Pre-AFL alignment to the level they have these days, home and away Port always seemed the best attended (or right up there), just wondered if that had changed.

F me, I'm glad we've still got the Magpies propping up the comp.

Yes, agreed. It will have dropped, clearly attendances are down across the competition.

Port home attendances only. Source: SANFL annual reports:

2015- 2221
2014- 3256 (2888 if “showdown” not included)
2013- 2942
2012- 2752
2011- 3304
2010- 3051

This was as big a lie from Trigg as the increase in crowds.

That's not how I read it. I saw it as an observation from Booney that the Magpie crowds fell off years ago, thereby having less numbers to fall post-occupation than the crowds of the successful teams.
