Good news for Central and Sturt with their home grounds being selected to host NAB Cup games in 2016...

This generalyl comes with a nice little cash injection from the AFL to upgrade facilities and put in the AFL standard goal posts, as well...

Port will host Melbourne at Playford Alive Oval and Unley will have Adelaide take on West Coast...

The Council say 8,000. A few more in the Bowls club a few locals the other side of the fence.

9K rocked up to Power v WC at Norwood, in a Chardonnay set area, so being the Crows I guess a lock out should happen at Unley.

2 days before the above mentioned game at Norwood, we had a reserves trial game cancelled at the last minute as to not scuff up the turf too much. Does the AFL know that Unley is a public park? Maybe it will be closed to public for a week.

Anyway good boost financially for Sturt which is good to see. Elizabeth gets to host a 2nd one so well done dogs. Looks like its something that will rotate between the sanfl clubs maybe.

Not to mention the Sturt District Cricket club have a game scheduled on Unley Oval the day before.....

I believe they got 22k once. I reckon 15k could squeeze in if they were serious.

I'm sure the Cricket can be moved somewhere for 1 day. Tipping they get more to a Sturt V West on a wintry wet day than they get all cricket season.

Anyway that would have all been discussed and planned for if needed.

A much different Unley, these days 5k is ridiculously overcrowded.

5-6 k in Unley makes for a great atmosphere . Room to move easily . Its fantastic at some suburban grounds when there is a good crowd . I don't like the grounds that lack atmosphere .

Be shithouse IMHO, I refuse to go there and if I did it'd only be if there was 2k or less there.
The AFL and SANFL need to have standards and not play games at parklands, its a disgrace IMHO.
Atmosphere is plastic forcing people to stand in the same area. You can even walk or stand around entire ovals at Amateur, SFL and country games, its a step below them.

The old Unley was great but that'll never happen again.

Oh well dont go bud.

Plastic atmosphere ? What does that mean ? Forcing people to stand in the same place ?

It will be a great advertisement for SANFL footy I think. Hope Glenelg get one too , brilliant . North will get one too , hopefully they straighten the ground up so the goals line up. Good for local clubs.

So does Unley.....but that didn't stop the AFL........

Mind you Glenelg and Prospect are First Grade grounds so you would think SACA might have something to say about that.

Prospect's a poor ground lacking elevated viewing and is devoid of atmosphere (particularly at the bowling club end). Oh, and it had a weird smell about it and generally ugly looking patrons...

To be fair, I do the programming for the B&L Cricket Asssociation and a couple years ago I was asked if Nuri was available to which we said no as cricket was already programmed there. That was when the game was eventually played at Willaston oval, think it was Power vs GWS.
Id be fairly sure either the SACA or SturtCC has ok'd this.

If West Coast thought Norwood was small in this year's NAB cup game.....

Ok mate. So when North or Glenelg see the benefit for their club they will say no will they ? I reckon many $$$ poured into the club they might be smart enough to negotiate a move with cricket. They would be part of it to start with . Supporters think this stuff is done by amateurs I reckon. This small stuff is identified and analysed before a decision is made.

The club with the worst conditions just got a great boost. Isn't that a good thing ? A district cricket club might just need to move away for a game. I'm sure they will be compensated.

I remember a Wedgie post praising the atmosphere, after an Unley Roosters game.
Changed your mind I see.
EDIT:
I think this is the one:
July22-2007Wedgie wrote:Good day at Unley today, Sturtpeter got me cheap(er) beers (ie Prospect price as opposed to Unley price), also caught up with Barto and lesthmechanic, it was a really good atmosphere in the outer today, even the Sturt fans thought the Grog sqaud were funny with their quips.
Prior to the game I had the pleasure of catching up with a media flock in Phil Herden, Chris Kendall, Robbie Douglas and Daniel Schell who was making special comments today for LifeFM.
What a delightful lad Daniel Schell is, its the first time Ive had the pleasure of chatting to him and he's a class act, to tell the truth having already met Chris Gowans and a couple of other Central players I must admit I can only but admire how classy they all and are fantastic blokes who just love talking footy.
Central have something really really special out there.
PS Back in 60 mins, gonna watch TNA with the son now. I hope no Port supporters will whinge this week about the time it took for me to get the photos up after a loss. :?
