I suppose, electronic tickets are such a new concept, the SANFL are real pioneers here, have to develop this new alien technology themselves

With less people going through the gates it makes sense to spend more money on counting them.
I can't remember an issue getting into a SANFL game in 30 years.

So you are saying that you are looking forward to those people who understand it, complaining about it. Maybe they would have a point then, if they understand it and still feel the need to complain about it.

Yeah pretty hard counting 10 paying customers.

Recording where they are from, age brackets, how regularly they attend etc could be useful information.

Problem is they are likely bringing it in after the horse has bolted.

Agree.

I'm guessing the electronic tickets are predominately for members/prepaid 'season' tickets. Wouldn't the clubs (and the league by extension) have this kind of personal info already? In time I guess they could generate stats about attendance patterns, but that would take years. I'm also not sure how a one-off entry would collect any valuable info.

Its a bar code read by a bar code scanner.

They were held up due to one club being very tardy with supplying the league with the membership details as the cards include the members name and membership level.

Yep one off entries aren't going to register any of those details, yet they're the ones clubs would probably most like to convert to regular attenders or members.

Clubs might run a loyalty point system through their memberships too I would guess.

These tickets have a number of benefits.

If lost/stolen can be cancelled and a new one issued.

Can be scanned at the club when purchasing items , meals etc which helps the clubs understand who spends the money and where.

Gives a crowd breakdown ie south play west and 1200 turn up they can see how many were members of each club etc turn up. Helps with marketing.
