EAGLES
Woodville-West Torrens has regained star goalsneak Lachlan McGregor for Saturday’s blockbuster against Sturt at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval.
Sidelined for the Eagles’ win against Adelaide in Round 17, McGregor has overcome a minor calf strain to be named on the four-man extended interchange bench.
‘’If it was a final he probably would have played but we thought we would take a cautious approach with him,’’ Eagles coach Michael Godden said.
Star forward Andrew Ainger will play his 100th IGA League match after making his debut with South Adelaide in Round 1 2011.

STURT
Sturt will almost certainly chalk up its sixth debutant of the year when it tackles the Eagles at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval on Saturday.
Two potential first-gamers – midfielder Steven Slimming and small forward Mikey Coombes – have been included in the 23-man squad with Campbell Wildman.
Slimming, an AFL Academy member, has clean skills and likes to run and carry the football for the Double Blues.
The 18-year-old measures in at 181cm and 72kg while Coombes, from NTFL club St Marys, provides plenty of pressure inside 50m.
Running defender Tom Harms will rest a minor knee injury which isn’t considered serious.
‘’We expect him to be back playing next week,’’ Sturt football manager Shane Grimm said.

Battle for top spot and the only side Sturt hasn't beaten this year.
Tom Harms a big out. Very solid defender who puts in 100% every week.
Last week's mauling of West was a real aberration for us. We usually just scrape home yet the Eagles seem to smash their opposition every week, evidenced in the low number of points scored against them, and the high number for over the season.
Sturt will need to bring the kitchen sink and throw it along with everything else we've got to get over the Eags, who I'm sure will bring their best game. A win for the Eagles here and top spot is theirs. Sturt on the other hand, will have to back the effort up against South, away, next week. We are in effect, just fighting to hold top spot for just one more week.
Should be a cracker.

September preview, match of the round. Buggered if I can tip a winner, though. Hopefully there's a cracker crowd and close finish.

Hopefully Sturt can squeeze Slimming in this week. ;)

As for the reserves, reckon the Eagles should play Woods on the wing, if only to complement the botanical garden theme provided by Rowntree and Firns.

They basically even each other out on the points for and against mate? Bit of perception v reality for you and other Sturt fans out there?

1 Sturt 14 12 2 0 0 0 1195 867 57.95 24
2 Eagles 14 11 3 0 0 0 1179 841 58.37 22

Should be worth the weight. Hopefully he plays a good portion of the game and doesn't make a meal of it.

Just me I think Cougar.
The only premiership tables I check are the sanfl.com, which doesn't actually give a for and against column, just a percentage, and Pseudo's dinkum table, which does give a for and against column, but only counts matches between heritage clubs. I didn't realise the two clubs were so similar.
Thanks for that.

Good tight game of footy this one.
Hopefully plenty of goals in an open game but I suspect they might cancel each other out with the Eagles creeping over the line 9-7 to 8-9

Whoever wins will get a valuable psychological advantage for the finals.

Getting dark outside. Might be a late change for the eagles.

I went to Woodville oval with a cautious optimism regarding the result of yesterdays game. The game the Eagles brought totally put Sturt on the defensive. The tackling and numbers around the ball was a good piece of coaching. Congratulations to Andrew Ainger on his 100th game. He has been down recently with injury and form but he certainly played well. I feel Sturt were lucky to be as close on the scoreboard but I am sure they will come better come finals.

Was surprised at the final margin. When we meet in the finals it will be a lot closer than that. Whilst we all played well Sturt seemed to have a bit of an Off day. South will now be a test for Sturt
