With only 19 listed AFL players the captain is a chance to play.

To make it easier for him to get a game:

Adelaide will be able to field a strong lineup in the Club’s first ever SANFL final, according to qualification rules set out by the League.

The SANFL Crows finished their home and away season in fourth position on the League ladder and will play Central District in the Club’s first ever SANFL final on Saturday, September 3 at Adelaide Oval.

Finals qualification rules for listed players at State League level only apply if/once Adelaide’s AFL team is eliminated from its own finals campaign. Selectors’ only restriction in Week One of the SANFL finals series will surround the 22 chosen for AFL duties the previous weekend.

Players cannot feature at SANFL level if they played AFL the previous week and the senior team is not in action on the same weekend as the SANFL side.

For example, Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Ricky Henderson were called into last Friday night's AFL clash with West Coast in Round 23. The pair therefore cannot be chosen at SANFL level for Adelaide’s first final this weekend during the AFL’s post-season bye. This ruling could also come into play if Adelaide finishes top four and won an AFL Qualifying Final.

If/once Adelaide falls out of the AFL finals race, SANFL qualification rules dictate players are only eligible for SANFL finals if they have played more SANFL matches than AFL games during the season, including three games after June 30. Development players are eligible if they have played one minor round game.

The Club can also apply for a permit for particular players in cases involving injury, suspensions or extenuating circumstances.

Qualification rules kick in immediately if/once the AFL team is eliminated from finals, meaning late changes may be required to Adelaide’s SANFL team if it plays after an AFL loss on the same weekend regardless of team selection earlier in the week.

How come Van Berlo's not available? I thought he missed last week with foot soreness, so shouldn't he be able to play if fit?

Interesting. I presume this means the Crows can make an application for permission to allow a non-qualified player to play SANFL finals.

I'm sure when the time comes the league will make a decision that's in the best interests of football in this state.

And here we have it. The SANFL have given the Crows permission to play Ellis-Yolmen this weekend. What a joke.

Apparently I should forget the politics and not be annoyed by playing Adelaide.
Hard to do when politics plays such a part in the game itself.

Spoken by Heath Yoni (sic) himself:
“The brief from the Senior Coach has been all year, we want to go out and compete and win, but we want to do it in the right way."

So "doing it the right way" extends to circumventing the qualification rules .

I should love nothing more than for the SANFL supporter base to treat this sham contest with the contempt it deserves by staying away.

The SANFL had the permit ready in the top draw before Younie even rang up to ask permission.

Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir.

Can we then expect a flood of people towards the Gates of AO at about 3pm?

Hopefully it can be earlier if the Dogs are comfortably in front ;)

Everything seems to be in the AFL Clubs favour doesn't it? Even Crows "Essential" Members get free access to all SANFL finals and the GF.

As ridiculous as it sounds - I almost wish that we forfeit the match in protest. Almost....

Ahhhh, so the people who actually support the SANFL have to pay, while AFL supporters get a free ride for a bit of entertainment when the big boys don't have a game.

What are the "extenuating" circumstances?

Hypocritical "inner circle" of self obsessed elites who believe they are somehow doing the right thing for the state by absolutely gutting the local competition. There is no integrity with this decision. Plainly a decision to ensure a guy stays in form just in case he is required the next week for Adelaide. A disgusting decision. Hang your heads in shame SANFL.

On to the game.
It's hard to judge how this one will go.
We have never lost to the Ravens - but, now, we face them in their first final at this level.
They've finished above us, but some of their results could have been different but for player availability, so could they have finished higher on the ladder?
Will 'home-ground' advantage play a part? Or will our ability to play big grounds stifle that advantage?
Will Centrals supporters bring their (in)famous atmosphere? Yes.
Will Crows supporters turn out in droves because they've nothing better to do? #theatregoers
Will the Dogs bring their A game, or the inconsistent form, which has seen us finish fifth when there was anticipation of higher?
There are many, many variables in this game.
I'm tipping the Dogs, because that's what my heart says (and I don't want to be the side that allows the Ravens a shot at the title from fifth, let alone give them their first finals win).

Absolutely no balls by the SANFL what Adelaide says the SANFL do
with 19 listed AFL players what possible hope have Centrals got
or any other team that plays them after.Surprising they didnt find a way
for Betts, walker etc to get a game. The SANFL ARE SPINELESS

We've beaten them with as many AFL-listed players before. We can do it again.

Fair call. They aren't from one, particular, supporter base, though. They are buying a ticket for a venue, not a club.
There could be Centrals supporters among them, or Sturt, or South, or even Adelaide.
However, when do CDFC, Sturt or South members get into SANFL finals for free?

I'm pretty sure they beat you last year to chalk up their 'historic' first triumph. Hearing the Raven's song on 5rph was a horrible experience. Anyway...

The Ellis-Yolman decision comes as no great surprise. Why bother having qualification rules if they are not enforced.

On the game- from what I saw of the Ravens last week the Dogs are a huge show. Fingers crossed.

You sure? I thought I'd read somewhere else we were unbeaten against them.
Not like I've never been wrong before.
