I know Barrot made his bones playing for Richmond, but he was also playing-coach of West Torrens in 1973 and for part of 1974. He passed away yesterday, aged 72.

Barrot was a real character.

Once after a bad loss, he made the Torrens players do what might be termed a 'warm-down' on the oval after the game.

Billy simply called it 'punishing the bastards'.

I was there for that goal. Magnificent kick and the weather conditions not that great. I was standing at the eastern side directly opposite the cameras. He was a brilliant player but not suited to coaching.

Lots of reports that he wasn't a great bloke off the field. My old man used to rave about how good a player he was, would loved to have seen him in action.

Thanks. I wouldn't quite have put it like that but correct. In 1974 Wayne Jackson replaced him as coach and the club turned a poor season to make the final 5.

Amazing kick that. It looks as though he has taken it alongside the center square, about ten meters back from the leading edge. How far is the center square from the goals at Thebarton? Add ten meters to that, and then perhaps another ten for shooting from the wing rather than straight in front and I reckon that's legitimate 90 meters.

I can vaguely recall Blighty in the 80's making Woodville do some training drills at halftime/3qt on the oval after Glenelg were giving them a hiding...

Wouldn't the SANFL love crowds as in the video these days. Thebarton Ovals dimensions are 190 x 140 so I would guess that kick was 80-90 metres at least. It hit the boundary fence on the full.
