Reckon I shall drag the offspring to see this on the weekend. Very important for them to know that there is more than two teams in the state, and that football was played here well before 1990.

Clicking through the digital offerings, I did find this amusing:

It looks very much like the doll was recycled from wartime Germany. You can almost see the shine on the upper lip where the moustache has been buffed out...

Even to this day there's a NAZI clique in North Adelaide trying to keep the streets free of the rabble that make up the general public

Would have been great if it had started a week or two earlier so the SAPSASA footy kids who are in town this week got a real chance to have a look at it. Wouldn't hurt these 10-13 yr olds to go have a look at how football has come before them. Hopefully someone from SANFL has notified SAPSASA about it to give it a plug over these last 3 days of the carnival.

I'll certainly be giving it a real decent look.

So, ability to recognise Simpson references is a requirement to be a candidate?

Anyone else been in for a look?

Worth the effort I reckon. Quite enjoyed the look through, probably take you 40-60 minutes to go through and really have a good look, could spend a couple of hours if you get cornered by one or more of the guide / volunteers.

One volunteer in particular right? Good hearted but sheesh my ear was burning....am told that's the daughter of John Halbert, both of whom were actively involved in the curation.

Lots of neat stuff, it's always fun to namecheck the players you grew up with. The magarey presentation is cool and I just loved looking at pics of genteel but packed-to-the-gills crowds from yesteryear...stifling a tear to see how that devolved into the current day Cows supporter in their funny yellow hats and Rory masks who boo all game and leave when the going gets tough...but I digress.

As good as it all is, it's a little random and makes you think how GREAT something a permanent museum like this could be given the ephemera clubs and supporters would have out there, probably gathering dust. We could do something like the MCG sports museum absolute justice I reakon

Had a quick 15-20 min look at lunch today. Will pop back next week to finish it off.

Was quite a reasonable number of people wandering about. I may have been the only person there under 50, not that there is anything wrong with that..

Took master Pseudo along for a look last week.

Thought the "football in SA" exhibit was a bit lame; some interesting vontage photos and a small collection of memorabilia.

The SANFL exhibition was a bit better, but still somewhat limited, and perhaps a little narrow ... there seemed to be a lot of stuff connected with a small number of people. As an exercise, see how many times you can find Peter Carey mentioned in it.

Nevertheless there was enough to keep me interested and pining for better days of yore.

Master Pseudo could not wait to get out of the place, had torn through it in about 2 minutes before whinging that he was tired and wanted to go home. The only time he showed any real interest was when I looked up a picture of his great-grandfather in one of the players' scrapbooks (*) and showed it to him. My attempt to instill a sense of history in him was largely wasted.

(*) - that was a nice thing: 7 players scrapbooks have been digitised and are browsable on one of several tablets within the exhibition.

Worth a look, for those who care.

Would have been the first person lining up for this 5 years ago even when I was a full time worker. I dont work during the days these days and wouldnt walk across the road to see it hence the destruction of my interest in the competition since the AFL sides entered the SANFL. Sad but true.

I think they should make a permanent home for it at Adelaide Oval, if nothing else but to act a reminder that footy actually existed in the state before the Adelaide Crows.

Having said that, I would like to get the chance to see it. Think it would be quite interesting.
