Hard to see anything but a Sturt v Eagles GF. Should just play it now.

Make that the bottom 3 sides.

Ours wasn't a major upset.

The result was by no means an upset.

The margin, on the other hand...

Yep, Sturt v Eagles GF is almost a cert. Think we have a good enough list on paper to go close but poor coaching and game style will prevent us finishing top 3 and having a genuine crack at it. Still no certainty to make the 5 either yet
As the injury toll inevitably mounts in the Pahhhhr camp, they could wilt. But I wouldn't write them off at all. And given the Eags' GF record in recent years, anyone who makes the GF against them will go in feeling good even if they're notionally underdogs.

Norwood should have been good things to make the GF with the list it has. But it's an indictment on the rest of the competition that we're 4th. Massacred by a Sturt side that was out of the 5 at the time, barely fell over the line against a South Adelaide side that is chronically out of sorts, and now beaten by the bottom side on our own deck. Yet, apart from Sturt there's no-one stepping up to go ahead of us on the ladder, let alone boot us out of the 5.

The funny thing is that after all of the criticism of 'defensive, slow scoring, gathering possessions and either going backwards or chipping it 15 metres' criticism of Norwood in the Bassett and Warren years, Norwood in 2017 kicks scores. Second-highest in the league for points scored, and it's a long, long time since that's been true of a Norwood side.

Even in the losses (and there has been 1 thumping loss, plus 4 by less than a kick), we've always kept the scoreboard ticking over. Our lowest score for the year was in one of our most impressive wins—9.13 (67) as part of beating the Eagles by 5 goals.

That suggests to me that the problem isn't the coach's game style. Dreadful skill execution, bad decision-making, a lack of understanding among team-mates (in particular balls being kicked to where the player isn't leading), tackling that doesn't stick, and a belief that a few Hollywood passages of play makes up for a lack of hard work and accountability without the ball: absolutely. But Cotton promised to make Norwood under his watch a higher-scoring team, and he's delivered on that. Of course the coach ultimately wears the rap if the team isn't winning, no matter the reason. But some basic skills training should be higher on the agenda than a complete re-boot of the coach's gameplan.

Eagles the best team and best coached by a mile, will finish 4 or 5 games clear on top. Problem for them will be having to play in a Grand Final.

Eagles V Sturt and back-to-back for the Blues if I had to put some hard earned on it now.

Can't see WWT being knocked off from top spot, Power Res and Sturt to make up the top 3 and Norwood just outside for 4th. I think any of these four are capable of winning the flag.

What happened o the Port support on Saturday. Poor crowd. The SANFL needs to look at scheduling. You cant compete with Crow telecast and a Power game in the evening.

Heard an interesting one today about the Bays.

I'm told the league team did their full prep, strapping, main warm up etc at Glenelg and then bused it up to Elizabeth and essentially just ran out onto the field to play!?

Anyone know about it?

When I walked into the ground at maybe 1:50 - 1:55 they were on the ground doing warm ups of some sort (balls were out) before going back into the change rooms and reappearing 10 minutes later.

Mate we all know there Port support has died off a fair bit since the Magpies finally died. Hence unless you are bringing in the crowd then it wont be a big turn out when you play them or the crows.

MickyJ, I made a similar comment about Port's crowd when I saw those figures in the other thread.
The figures suggest that Port is still drawing sizeable crowds, yet my own personal experience (since they became the Power reserves) has been where are these fans exactly? At Sturt games they are more numerous than Crows fans, but otherwise there just aren't that many of them about, especially compared with pre 2014.
Now, I am not saying this to get my dick out, or stir the pot, and sure, I realise that as an away crowd there would likewise, be less Sturt supporters, but there is a marked difference between what the figures say and my own observations. It would seem that Micky has had the same observation as I.
I would suggest that the old Port rivalry is still a popular draw card for opposition supporters, that seems a pretty solid assumption from my perspective. The figures would have received a healthy boost from the Power bye weekend. Photos from that match showed a good turnout of nostalgic Magpie supporters from days of yore.
Anyway, just adding to the discussion. As I have always said, a strong Port Magpies is good for the SANFL, hence this recent (perhaps, perceived?) disparity between Port crowd figures and actual support is of interest to me.

I agree not with the pot stirring device lol
Honestly the side of oval ave last game 20 Port fans
Go back to the game at Alberton with no power game a very big Port crowd who left early ( stirring now lol )
If the sanfl programs games for Port and Crows when their afl teams are playing their supporters stay away but less crows go than Port
I know eagles have a low member base and fan base and the no afl in the sanfl ones
But honestly that crowd either equaled or was slightly more than Port v Crows 2017 at oval ave

It can not be put on non afl clubs in the sanfl if the afl seconds don't attract then that's why the crowd is low
Surely Port faithful can not say Woodville oval is to far from Alberton as they did for footy park in the afl
