Did Koch have another epic melt back at Alberton?

Did you get on Sturt leading into 2016 when they were paying 250/1 to win the flag and had worse odds than North?

Only if Brett Eddy gave a shit. Good bye.

Not sure about out-coached but Sturt have the best system/game plan of the the non-AFL clubs. They are well drilled. Their players know what works for them and stick to it.

Eddy, well, he likes it on his terms. Enjoy Carlunga next year Brett.

We were out coached.

Mattner had massive numbers around the ball, Ah Chee, Atley, Summerton all got regular first touches in the contest but were immediately swamped by multiple tacklers, we were afforded absolutely no space to get out and use our pace.

On the rare occasion we did get out our forward half was impotent. Eddy hardly offered a contest, Marshall tried but was often working with delivery on the top of his head and Sturt's two best, Stephens and Evans, along with Page and McMahon had 20 marks between them. Port's forwards in Young, Marshall, Sharrod and Eddy had 10 between them. Sturt only had 42 marks for the game, 20 of them across the back half.

More touches, more I50, more tackles, more marks, more hit outs. Means the opposition worked smarter than we did and didn't allow us to play our style of game = out coached.

Ignore him LMA, if he doesn't afford players of the ilk of Steve Summerton any respect he deserves none in return.

Who in their right mind would think to attack Summo? What has he ever done wrong? Besides love his club and get the most out of himself

Throw Lobbe in there as well.

Off the mark with Lobbe there mate, he was one of the few who could hold his head up. He had a crack yesterday, Osborn has a habit of being good in big matches and Lobbe had the better of that contest.

Sturt play a certain way - Sydneyesque thank to Mattner, where it is a contested focussed, big bodies in the mids with quick delivery to forwards.

Cornes has spent 12 months coaching boys the Hinkley way and playing players in position to develop into AFL players in the positions Port want and they can play the Port way in the the AFL. Not trying to argue the rights and wrongs of reserves teams here it's just that as that is the system that exists right now.

Sturts game plan is more simple and suited to SANFL footy (read the next level down) and easier to execute.

So to me it is not that Port were outcoached per-se it's more that the Sturt players stuck to their system longer and better than the Port players did (bit like the Old Port teams of the 80s-90s and Centrals of teh 00s) to win the game.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Additionally Ports delivery inside 50 to their forwards was very ordinary. Alot of kicking and hoping hence the amount marks the Sturt defenders took and alot of kicks were on the leading forwards head and not to their advantage, allowing the defenders to get a spoil in almost every time.

Loved his club that much that he launched a tirade on them over social media and then went grovelling back to them when the dollars came pouring in. Absolute turn coat. Got what he deserved

Thought Lobbe recovered well enough, but Osborn touched him up early. Why didn't Port go 3rd man up??

Yep, hats off to the Double Blues for going back to back, and coming through the long way via the first semi. Not bad for a club that was struggling not that long ago, it demonstrates what lateral thinking, problem solving nous and some commitment to the club's on field success can achieve.

Whatever it is that Sturt has, it's clearly something that money can't buy otherwise North would've already purchased it. Then again, we might already have bought their magic formula but the board probably traded it for a copy of a Ralph magazine and packet of Tazos. Our football review should've just involved paying Sturt whatever they wanted to let us sit in on their club for a week and take notes.

Once again, well done Sturt. Three in row on the cards? Who's likely to retire or shunt themselves over the the AFL? Wouldn't have thought many (Mattner perhaps?)

Scott McMahon has retired to coach in Murray Bridge. Not sure of anyone else. It's a reasonably young list. Most of them are only just starting to get to their best. If they can hold the squad together they are looking good for a while yet. Mattner well who knows but I understand he is coaching one more year.

McMahon retires from SANFL to player/coach in the RMFL.

To be fair he's done his bit been in the AFL system for while (10 years?) then 2 years in the Semi Professional world of the SANFL for 2 flags.
