South Adelaide have secured a new ruckman.

Former basketballer and Box Hill VFL player Michael Knoll is a Panther.

South Adelaide is please to announce the signing of key position forward Hayden McLean.
McLean is a physical forward known for his strong contested marking ability and accuracy in front of the sticks.

Prior to joining the Panthers, McLean, who weighs in at a formidable 197cm and 93kg, spent the last season playing alongside former Panther Brede Seccull with Sandringham in the VFL, claiming the club's best first year player award in 2018.

In 13 games for the Zebras, McLean averaged 13.2 disposals, 5.2 marks and 10.3 hit outs, while also slotting nine goals.

The 19 year old also enjoyed an impressive junior career, showcasing good leadership qualities as he captained Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup and served as vice captain for Victoria Metro in the AFL National Championships in 2017.

"Hayden is an imposing key forward who has played some strong VFL footy despite being just 19 years of age," said senior coach Jarrad Wright.

"Losing Nathan Kreuger to Geelong left us with a hole to fill up front and we really believe Hayden can play a nice role for us in the forward half.

"He is a very strong pack mark and should provide some good support for Sam Overall up front, taking catches and helping provide our smalls with plenty of opportunities.

"He is a big boy and he has pinch hit in the ruck for Sandringham and Vic Metro in the past, but we see him ideally as a strong forward target."

Join us in welcoming Hayden to Noarlunga!

I, like many Southies were looking at 2019 with some dread, now however the club's specific targeted recruits of McLean, Knoll and Karmony are excellent together with some exciting juniors ready to step up ably supported by a stable senior list of experienced players suddenly 2019 is looking pretty good.

From West Adelaide:

“Shannon Green will hang up the boots after 146 games for the Bloods. Green announced at our Best and Fairest awards that he would be playing on 2019 for his 11th league season. Unfortunately after a knee surgery recently and some tough realities about the strength of his knee he has made the decision to call it time.

The 2015 Premiership player received the Roger Luders Medal for most goals kicked in our premiership year, as well as receiving life membership in 2018 and the Presidents Award for displaying all the characteristics we want in a West Adelaide Player.

Shannon’s leadership and courage on and off the field will be greatly missed. We wish him all the best in the future.”

I love the reporting these days. (cutting to the chase) "He weighs in at 197cm".....

Anyway. Best of luck to him/Panfers, they need it. Go Blues.

This 'in' won't be until about 2036, but Central will have a new CHF under the 'Father-Son' rule. Congratulations to Big (Medium now) Phil and his beautiful wife, Magda, on the safe arrival of young Ruben just before the end of 2018. A wonderful addition to the family!
Cheers

South Adelaide cult hero Jake Veide is returning to Noarlunga.

After stepping away from SANFL football in 2017, the man affectionately dubbed 'The Robot' will look to add to his 114 games with the Panthers in 2019.

"We are super excited to welcome Jake back to the club," said South Adelaide Senior Coach Jarrad Wright.

"A year away from the State league has allowed his body to recover to a point he feels comfortable that he can return and impact games.

"Jake's an experienced campaigner, admired by many for his professionalism and dedication to his craft.

"We look forward to seeing what he can add to our group moving forward."

Veide made his League debut in 2009 against the Gowan brothers-led Bulldogs under then coach Clay Sampson and soon established himself as a valuable cog in the Panthers engine room.

A hard-running, physical presence around the ground, Jake flourished under the tutelage of Brad Gotch, claiming the 2014 Most Improved Player award.

In 2016 his perseverance and determination was rewarded as he played his long-awaited 100th SANFL game after overcoming surgeries on his hip, shoulder, knee and twice on a broken leg through the first eight years of his career.

This season Veide returned to country football, lining up for Mount Compass in the Great Southern Football League and earning selection in the Team of the Year.

However, after a year away he has decided to give SANFL football at his beloved Panthers another crack.

The club welcomes Jake back into the fold and looks forward to seeing his iconic number 62 guernsey in action once again.

Did you read a News Limited publication on the weekend where this was announced?

With the AFLW taking up Norwood Oval there is no other suitable venue with multiple changerooms or other commitments.

Think last years UNSW won the flag (just) and included former Norwood/North players Darren Pfeiffer, Steve Pollock and Jesse Aish, so you'd think a reasonable standard
