Every premiership is of equal value and significance.
Does it annoy you at all that all your wins have come against Woodville, West Torrens and West adelaide?
Would you rather have beaten Port, Norwood, North or Sturt?
Does that impact on who you are supporting this weekend?
If I were a dog fan I couldnt care who we played as long as we won. However if I had a choice I would like to knock over a traditional powerhouse.
BTW I am in no way trying to detract from your achievements.

Good question dasher, have spent some time thinking about it lately. Ultimately your point about not caring who you beat for a flag is correct.
On the other hand, one of the few legitimate sledges left against the club is "you haven't beaten a powerhouse". But it's not our fault if the powerhouses aren't up to getting in a GF.
It would be nice to start squaring up for 95 & 96 with Port, or even 02 with Sturt.

SMAC a flag is a flag.
The current team is a cultimation of years of hard work since the clubs inception.
Its a reward for players like Platten and Jonas who played in the leaner years.
1964-1999 your team were still maidens, so I guess you got to accept the
5 flags against anybody, although it would be nice to fix up PA along the way.
FWIW The best 3 players I have seen play for CD
1 John Platten
2 John Duckworth
3 Gilbert Mcadam
Special mention for Greg Edwards who was possibly going to be a greatest footballer
until his unfortunate eye injury, his spectacular leaping and uncanny goal sense in
his brief career was amazing.
Greg and I used to have several chats, I just feel for Meggsy, a great tradgedy.
Meggsy you will always be a champ.
His son is playing at North and is showing glimpses of his Dads ability.
Anyway take the flags lads, its for you and all those players mentioned above
who would no doubt be absolutely thrilled the last 6 years.

-'er,I would suggest who ever the two teams are playing in the GF are the powerhouses of the comp, the fact Norwood,Port and Sturt are not there means they,at this point in time, are far from the powerhouse category. If you dont consider the Eagles to be a modern day powerhouse, think again, since their loss in 93,they have been on or around the mark, and for mine,GF day, someone has to lose,it's just repeatedly been them.

Was about to say that myself.
I guess they mean "traditional powerhouses".

Port first, Norwood next, then Sturt, Genelg, North, South, West & after them, go back to whipping the Eagles every year.

David,
There have been numerous modern day powerhouses over the years.
DOGS
EAGLES
GLENELG
WEST 50's
Four clubs have stood the test of time to be consistent.
Interesting how you all still leave North out despite my continual pointing out of the facts. Hopefully this year we will be a clear 3rd.

Obviously everyone has their own slant on it dasher, but my own opinion is that a powerhouse has had a period of total dominance over the rest of the competition - to my knowledge, North haven't done that (ready to be corrected by the battalion of cocks armed with stats though). I know they have won a flag in almost every decade of their existence but it is another debate altogether which is better.
I think where most get confused is allowing the powerhouse tag to stick - Norwood, Sturt and West would struggle to hold on to such a tag anymore, whilst Port and Centrals would be considered 'modern day' powerhouses - I think even Port would have to surrender it soon enough. Not sure if the Eagles quite qualify as a powerhouse, perhaps a substation at the moment.

And neither is my team. But at least we make the GF and have a chance of winning one.

I don't care who we beat. A flag's a flag, and if the so called powerhouses aren't good enoguh to get there - so be it.

Speaking for myself, it makes no difference who the runner-up is.

LMAO. I didn't know Port or Norwood were playing this weekend. And they are the ONLY traditional powerhouses.

Balderdash. The Eagles are a modern powerhouse. Any sentence referring to Port or Sturt as a powerhouse would necessarily be phrased in past tense.
No matter who you beat in a Grand Final, you beat one of the top two teams in the league.

Thanks for selectively quoting my post. Any chance you could read all the way to the end of it?
If you had done so, you would see my thoughts on who is or isn't a powerhouse and they seem to line up fairly close to yours.

since 1964.
Port -15
Sturt - 8
Centrals - 5 (Chance of 6 in 2 weeks)
Norwood - 5
All others less than 5.
so give Centrals a chance to be a powerhouse, since 64 port are the only club with alot more flags than us, and they have alot more than anyone.
Centrals couldnt possibly win flags before 1964, but since then they are matching it with most of the ''traditional powerhouses''.
a few years ago it would have bothered me that we hadn't beaten port or norwood, but we have been consistenly showing up on grand final day, and they haven't, so there is little we can do about that.
In the past i have really wanted a certain team to win the prelim, but this year im not really fussed, North for a bigger crowd, but i see them as more of a threat.
with the risk of sounding arrogant....

just in my opinion, I do think it is becoming a little boring with only Eagles trying to take it up to the dogs for last 4 grand finals...and two before 2002... i am kinda hoping that nfc make it and can give a bit more of an effort in trying to knock the dogs off.. dont get me wrong - I love the winning feeling too (specially after 15 years of supporting with no grand final success) but think its better for the competition as a whole if the grand final outcome is not so one-sided. well just my thoughts...

centrals can only beat who they line up against and most of the time and lucky for them its been the eagles.

Yep, here's the salient point:
Not sure if the Eagles quite qualify as a powerhouse
Now go back and read the
start of mine.
