Our first two games the umpiring was woeful , in neither game did they influence the result though. Yesterday I thought the umpiring was pretty decent, they let things go more.

North looked pretty good today and deserved the win. They have a couple of blokes who can run fast with the ball and often seemed to have more numbers at the contest. Many North goals came from good running play where Sturt couldn't seem to lay a hand on the player with ball, with contingent of 2 or 3 players that would run spare from the contest there where plenty of options to share the pill around going forward, usually resulting in clean delivery for the forwards.
Sturt tended to muff their chances, and generally it was our pressure that kept us in the game.
The final quarter resulted in no goals to either side, and plenty of intensity at the ball ups. Sturt's best chance to goal was from a mark that wasn't, which North rebounded from, taking the ball down the wing and almost scoring a goal in reply less than 30 seconds after. It was a Modra-like double grab screamer taken in front of goals, at the other end from where we were viewing. A bit hard to call from the hill on the opposite side of the ground, but the umpire who was on the spot called it play on.
Anyway, the Cocks are on fire, and a very happy bunch of Red and White clad souls surrounded the players race, making plenty of noise as their team walked off.

You could see North last year show in patches the semblance of a good game plan for SANFL footy - (3rd qtr v us last year at Prospect)

As they players learnt to trust it and could maintain it for the majority of a game, you could see that they are going to be all-right.

They've got a good coach, they could surprise people this year

not least the North supporters who were consigning themselves to another wasted season

They’re surprising North people, that’s for sure

Edit

Sorry, you are right though. Some of their running game on Sunday was terrific it’s a style that would attract the fans too.

The last 2 years at Glenelg actually. As I have said before, North only won 8 games out of 36 in the last two seasons and 3 of the 8 were against Glenelg. I can't think of any good reason why North have played so well against the Bays recently when they have been so poor for so long.

North certainly have been good for the past two weeks. Perhaps they are getting their structure right. Ramsay is playing much better this year at Centre Half Forward and Tanner Smith, who was much maligned last year is certainly playing well at Centre Half Back. I thought that he was North's best yesterday and in the first round debacle at Elizabeth he was virtually North's only player. He had 20 touches that day on John Butcher, who only had 3 touches in a team that won by 10 goals.

I expected another wooden spoon this year but I am relatively confident that this now won't occur. I don't know now though who would be favourite for the spoon.

Good trivia question, would any of the current players played in 3 wins in a row for the Roosters?

2013 you would have done 3 on the trot, not sure about after that. Who's still going from then?

Do the last 2 games of 2014 and the first of 2015 count as 3 in a row. I guess technically they do.

If so a few players played in the first game of 2015 including Thring, Clisby, Spina. Cameron Craig played in the last 2 games of 2014 but not the first game of 2015. Barns and Olekans had played league in 2014 but neither played in any of the three winning games. Thring was the only player to play in all 3 games.

Max Thring would have been the only player from 2013 in yesterday's team.

Anyway this talk of 3 wins in a row is getting way to far in front of ourselves. I have followed the roosters for much too long to expect victory in any game. Even when we were a very good side (I have a very long memory) North are liable to put in a shocker when you least expect it and I still think Norwood has just about the best list going around.

James Craig and Ryswyk who sre both currently injured would probably have played in the last 3 in a row as well. They both played in the 2013 Grand Final. I think they are the only 2 players still at the club from that game. MAx Thring did a hammy in the Preliminary Final. He certainly wouldn't have made 40 points difference but we missed him that day.

At the oval , and post game feedback
ST supporters say that ST were hard done by the umps
NA supporters say that NA were hard done by the umps

ST 26 frees
NA 23 frees

The result was close, so did the umps have any sort of influence on the result ?
