JUST IN - @SturtFC premiership forward Ben Hansen has announced his sudden retirement. The dual West End State player told team-mates his ongoing back injury wouldn't allow him to continue in @SANFL A classy mover inside 50m, didn't need many touches to cause plenty of damage!

He will be missed. Premiership defender who gave a lot to our overall structure with his decision making and skill. All the best for the future Ben.

Prodigious kick for a little fella. Played his role in the revival of the Sturt football club.
Very good around supporters. Comes from a very supportive family. He can be happy with what he achieved.

Hansen has a bad back and has for a couple of years which he injured again against Port .

Others simply realise they wont make it and decide to go and get a few $$$ if they can. Its not a new trend , been going on for years. Cant blame them , its a big commitment . It is why Im a strong believer in raising the salary cap substantially more.

Thanke Ben. One of my and my son's favourites over the previous few years. Congratulations and enjoy retirement.

It won't happen.

Raise the salary cap as much as you like but some clubs can't afford to survive now.
