Matthew Wright Presser August 27
Crows SANFL Captain Matthew Wright speaks to media ahead of the SANFL finals series.

What a great opportunity for the young kids to come and play a final at Adelaide Oval.

Heath Younie

When the SANFL Crows play in a qualifying final under lights on Saturday night, it will be the first time several young players have run out onto Adelaide Oval.

For first-year Crows Lachlan Sholl, Kieran Strachan, Will Hamill and Jordon Butts, it could be their first taste of the big stage.

Speaking to media on Tuesday morning, State League coach Heath Younie said the atmosphere of Saturday’s clash with Port Adelaide would be a step closer to the elite level.

“What a great opportunity for the young kids to come and play a final at Adelaide Oval,” Younie said.

“Twelve months ago, some were playing in the TAC Cup, so they are excited and they can’t wait.

“It exposes them straight away into what is going to be a red-hot finals series.”

Younie said regardless of how far the team goes, the experience would help them for the 2020 season.

“Some of these guys haven’t had the opportunity at AFL level this year, but this is as close as they are going to get,” he said.

“For both clubs, what a great opportunity for the younger blokes, to play well and build some belief into their pre-season.”

While the older players will provide important leadership and experience, Younie said the young players should be the greatest draw card for fans.

“Andy Otten and Matty Wright will be integral parts of this finals series, but for all supporters, get down and watch the young kids,” Younie said.

“They’re the future of our footy club.”

Fans wanting tickets to the SANFL Showdown final can purchase them here.

Entry for Essential Crows members and Under-18s is free.

I dont have a problem with Heath Younies press statements
He is a WYSIWYG coach , refreshingly honest , about his team and his expectations
This press release is no exception

MW I haven't seen any confirmation of this. I saw an article on the AFL website with a headline that he was "unlikely" to play, that went on to say the club was in discussions with him and his manager.

Don't bother reading the article, it just repeats the above in different phrases about 4 or 5 times.
I guess it makes a break from the usual "Yeah, Nah, we're just taking it one week at a time." but I've never read a finals preview like that one before.

Geez, and my missus thinks I'm a negative whinger. LBH, if he said what you think would constitute a good finals preview you still wouldn't like it.

Now you blokes don't even try to hide it.

You're all being pretty harsh on Younie; why would he be talking about a flag when we all know where that's going? :p

Seriously though, not sure you're going to hear coaches talking premierships in the first week of finals; I'd be cringing if Mark Stone was talking premierships and we're a step closer to a GF than the other four clubs at this stage.

Um, you're not still p!ssed at us managing our players for September are you????
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

7:00PM Qualifying Final

I don't know 100 percent if this is the reason, but certainly seems it would be.

Think you will find its allowing time for a draw.

Not sure I buy that. Extra time takes ten minutes.

At any rate they haven't ever had a gap that big, and extra time was brought in 25+ years ago.

Double headers for the Finals have only ever recorded 1 crowd number , so you'd have no idea the number at the Franchise game . A good indicator will be empty seats after the first game. Booney , LBMGT and another guy are the Port fans commenting. lol.
