2006 Magarey Medal Predictor

Postby spell_check » Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:49 pm

This is based on a combination of individual observations, club forum player of the year votes and the three awards that have been presented so far:

purch for the Sturt votes
And the Roost, Westies and Norwood player forum voting contributors

That looks EXCELLENT, Spelly! :D
Since it is based on the combined views of over 100 people, it should be a very good predictor.

By the way, if anyone thinks that any of these predictions are way off, say so, and I'm sure Spelly will consider changing it if other sources agree with what you are saying. Because that is what it is - the consensus view of everyone who has an opinion on the votes.

Out of interest, the Top 5 in the C31 At The Toss Of A Coin/U-Pull-It Player of the Year Award (a mouthful late at night!) was:

20 - Jeremy Clayton (PA), Brett Backwell (Gl)
17 - James Gallagher (NWD)
16 - Justin McConnell (Gl)
15 - Tim Inkster (WWT)

These votes were placed by over a dozen different media contributors during the year.

I wonder if West Adelaide might set a couple records this year:

 Highest ever proportion of club votes by a single player (Haynes) :?:
 Least ever total votes by eligible (non-suspended) players :?:

I doubt you would have these records, Spelly, but if you do, they may go close!

And I think that may be right. It's hard to go past Clayton for the medal. A proven vote getter, and I hear his season has been just as good as when he won it last year.

So do I. I think he will have polled enough BOG votes to win it. But Macca19 would be in a better position to judge that than me, having seen all or just about all Magpies matches this year.

I'll see if I can look into the first question but I'd say the second would be if those votes were the case. Sturt in 1995 holds the title for the lowest votes by one team - 15.

I wonder if the North & Eagles table will be near each other...

They'll have Matt Campbell at least arm's length away from Skipworth :)

Will everyone just stop the skipworth - campbell nonsense. It's getting very tedious.

Spelly would have thought that McKenzie will poll more than 3 votes. I have been to every game this year and I would expect around 10-12 votes would be closer to the mark. I'm tipping a Cicolella - Inkster tie for the medal.

Thanks for your opinion EHL.

In which other games do you think he will poll then? We are happy to amend the table if you come up with good evidence that we should do so. But if Cicolella and Inkster tie for the win, and McKenzie also gets over 10, then that doesn't leave many votes for all the other Eagles!
