Interesting thoughts about premiers since 2015

Postby Ruck Legend » Sat Feb 22, 2020 11:29 am

2015 Premier West Adelaide - 2014 finished 9th
2016 and 2017 Premier Sturt - 2015 finished 8th
2018 Premier North Adelaide - 2016 finished 9th and then 2017 finished 10th
2019 Premier Glenelg - 2018 finished 6th.

The interesting fact is all of the last 4 teams to win a Grand Final finished the year before outside of the Top 5. I know Sturt went back-to-back but they finished 8th the year before doing this.

If Glenelg don't go back-to-back will a team from outside the Top 5 from last year win the 2020 Grand Final - South, Eagles, Central, North or West.

What I find the most interesting and encouraging it just goes to show in the SANFL in the past few years clubs can turns things around very quickly. It is a very even comp we have in the SANFL.

With the amount of player turnover anything could happen . I cant see West being near it though. Who knows with the AFL Reserves however . It could be really interesting if Port dont do anything at AFL level as Hinkley would be under the pump so anything could happen there which could be interesting.

Hinkley being under the pump has no bearing for the 2's. No finals for the A's, a SANFL flag won't save him.

I think the Camry's have secured more depth and are my smokey this year.

Disagree, like I said a B grade flag won't save Ken if the A grade under perform again.

Keep scratching as Im sure you wont find much . Anything could happen . Its Port , they could ask the AFL to bail them out if they sack Hinkley , nothing would surprise me. Then that could mean a whole range of changes that would impact on the Reserves team . Thats why it could be interesting. Where you got a B grade flag from is anyone's guess.

Quite the opposite I think. Ellis-Yoleman, Jacobs, Greenwood, Betts, Jenkins, Douglas and Otten all spent some time in the SANFL last year, they don't have that depth at all now.

I know Glenelg had an overhaul on and off field start of 2018, Stoney enters.
North Had Carr come in
Sturt Mattner
And West Mickan?

New ideas new structure and direction on some occassions delivers results if clubs buy in.

Bassett also? I don't think a premiership was immediate but had an instant impact.

It is Port Adelaide's B grade playing in the SANFL, fact. Unfortunately for obvious reasons to most we can't be called the Magpies and wear Black & White in the AFL but can be in the comp where it all started. If we could, we would. Amazes me how upsetting this is for non-supporters of the club.

Pity you can’t tell the few Port fans that turn up to sanfl games ( more than my eagles some weeks but not against port at oval ave )
Because not many wear magpies colours .
Just saying what I see at sanfl games
