Round 2 West Adelaide v Central District

Postby PatowalongaPirate » Thu Jul 02, 2020 11:35 pm

Adelaide Oval, Sunday July 5th, 2.40pm.

WEST

West Adelaide will be hoping Josh Schiller can boost its midfield rotation against Central at Adelaide Oval.

Schiller, who managed just four League games last year due to a shoulder reconstruction, was a late withdrawal in Round 1 with a back complaint.

The 27-year-old is one of five potential inclusions to the Bloods’ 22, with former Sturt running machine Ed Allan a possible AAMI Rookie, along with Unley’s Mitch Duval.

Former Glenelg goalsneak Josh Koster will miss 3-4 weeks after straining his hamstring in the opening minutes against North last Sunday while Keelan Laube was omitted.

F: K. Stevens, Thilthorpe, Waite

HF: Johnson, Hupfeld, Batley

C: Willsmore, Keough, Boyle

HB: Dunkin, Levicki, Taylor

B: Anderson, Ryan, Hill

R: Parrella, B. Turner, Karpany

INT: Schiller, Cleeland, Duval, Allan, Kirk, P. Fairlie, May

IN: Schiller, Allan, Duval, Cleeland, Kirk

OUT: Koster (hamstring), Laube

NEW: Edward Allan (Sturt), Mitch Duval (Unley)

CENTRAL

Central District coach Jeff Andrews has been forced into wholesale changes for the clash with West at Adelaide Oval.

No less than five adjustments will be made to the 22 which lost to Sturt in Round 1, with star pair Daniel Menzel and Trent Goodrem succumbing to ankle injuries.

Ben Kelly (calf) and Murray Stephenson (heel) also couldn’t be considered while Frazer O’Gorman was relegated to the Reserves.

Assistant coach John Butcher is the most surprising of the nine possible inclusions, with the former Power forward named on the extended interchange along with former Redleg Darcy Pisani.

Star midfielder Travis Schiller will make his comeback from a foot fracture in the Reserves.

F: Olsson, Falkenberg, Hoskin

HF: Durdin, Patterson, Presbury

C: Lange, J. Schiller, Carnelly

HB: Hanna, Montgomerie, Habel

B: Haydon, Llewellyn, Jenner

R: Marsh, Boyd, T. Menzel

Watched Centrals last week live and they offered little at times. Game was not high scoring by either side so they stuck to their task defensively, just lacking the ability to get it forward cleanly. It was a first game.

Many changes at selection, 4 injuries, will hurt. Does not give them a chance to settle on a line up.

Only saw a bit of West on the DP and thought they looked ok. Most sides will struggle against North this year.

It's a toss of the coin. West by a goal.

West all over Centrals. Should be 8-9 goals up but are up by 6.

Getting flogged like a catholic schoolboy...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Kicking short in the back lines in the first quarter killed us. We dont have the skills to chip it around.

I HATE DRAWS.

A draw is the same as a loss to me. We were in front near the end but West levelled the score so we were the losing team.

How many more times are we going to kick back and forth across the goals and then turnover the ball before we learn to stop doing it? No more kicking backwards or sideways. Kick it forward at least when we turn it over they have to bring it back.

I got no satisfaction or enjoyment from that. Sick of seeing the opposition team enjoying playing us so much.

We are on target for a winless season.

Fought hard for 3 quarters but this bullshit of letting teams have a free ride in the first quarter has to stop. We're still too small. Some of the kids/recruits showed a bit. Butch did his bit, kicked 3, gave off at least one and gave us something to kick to.

Maybe we need to increase the intensity of our warmups, so by the time we start the game we feel like we've played one quarter already.

The Dogs had 7 replacements from Round One and a new coaching emphasis that they are adjusting too.
Plus a whole bunch of kids who are doing well, but are inconsistent as is to be expected with the youth.
Getting smashed in the clearances over the first two matches (lots of smaller frames), but look to be good on the break.

A few returning this week, depth isn't an issue. Just the experienced performers. Damn, we could have been a threat with Menzels and Butch up fwd.

Agreed, there were lots of positives to take out of yesterday. We could have easily given the game up after being 39 points down early, or 30 points down in time-on in the third, or after West kicked the first goal of the last quarter. Our boys have fight and spirit, and that is great to see!
The performance of Nick Lange over the first two weeks has been fantastic and Butch looked like a man with a lot still to offer. Our Ressies are unbeaten; from that team we have our two Victorian recruits (Wilde and Toner) now available and getting match fitness and Travis is now ready for league action. Btw, does anyone know who number 63 was for our Ressies? A very tall player who was not named in the budget. His height could be useful in weeks to come.
Cheers

where can you get access to the reserves best players and goal kickers? I used to go on Central's website but they don't have that info on there this year for some reason.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.
