Impending Eagle Retirements

With the Eagles reserves bowing out, I believe this marks the end of Frewan and Hall's wonderful careers. With players like Salter and Hier around (assuming they aren't drafted) and Pedler and Mckenzie I cannot see them ever making a return unless injury occurs.

Floreani is also in the same situation.

Whatever these guys decide then congrats on wonderful careers.

I hear that Hall wants to continue next year, seeing that he is nearing 200 games for the club.

What about Colville? Did he announce that this week would be his last game?

Congrats to all of them ... I've had plenty of ales with Hally over the last few years and you'd be hard pressed to find a better bloke, have seen plenty of him on the field too and he's been a marvellous contributor as has Frewen.

Floreani's a player I've always respected ... Initially he used to annoy me, but I quickly realised it was because of his persistance and honesty on the field, qualities which I always find admirable.

So, if the curtain has indeed fallen for some or all of these guys, congratulations on fine careers!

Hall always reminded me of the Creepy Thin Man from Charlie's Angels movies.

If that was the case, all I could say to each and everyone of them was congratulations and thankyou for all of your hard work and effort over the many years, you've helped make our club the great club it is today. Having said that I have heard myself hally will go on. I would beleive frewy would probably retire, not sure about flori though.

Frewen, Hall and Floreani have been great servants of the club. I would be surprised if Frewen keeps playing as his body has been falling apart for years. At full fitness he was probably the best Centre Half Back in the SANFL. Hally has the best spoil I've seen at the Eagles. I'll always remember him for his courageous spoil against Sturt at Adelaide Oval when he did his shoulder in saving a goal right on the siren a couple of years ago. Floreani will be remembered as a smart footballer who gave it his all despite a perceived lack of pace and a small frame. He had one of his best seasons in 2005 and in the same season passed 100 league games. I'll remember his game at Elizabeth last year in the pouring rain where he threw his body in at every contest, even after popping his shoulder out.

If Colville does retire I hope it is with a premiership. If any one player in the competition deserves a premiership it is Gavin Colville. Having suffered the heartbreak of being the captain in losing grand finals, going through a full knee reconstruction, just missing out after being favourite for the Magarey, he sets such a great example and lets his actions on the field do the talking. The greatest interstate recruit the Eagles have ever had.

The spirit these guys show has been absorbed by the club as a whole. Thanks for the memories and all the best for the future, whether that involves one more year of senior footy or not.
