Noted South and the Woods Netball Club have now become one club the the Woods Club to called the South Adelaide Panthers, located at Flinders Uni Stadium same colours and club logo, great initiative by both clubs and the first SANFL League club and Premier Netball club combining, well done al parties with the result hopefully bringing all levels of Government to fund furtther and urgent development of the Noarlunga facilty.

When the Venue was created , it was designed to be a Community Hub with a range of sports I thought. Soccer , , Netball and Lacrosse .

No. Never designed to be a shared use facility which it is why it was 100% funded by the football club. No financial assistance in the build from anyone. All works, grounds and buildings were payed for by the club. The land is leased (pepper corn) from Onkaparinga council but in return they have to pay 100% of the operating costs.

South have allowed a number of entities from the area to use the facilities over the years and currently has a commercial arrangement with Cardijn College for the upper story of the club rooms.

South were broke when they moved there . No financial assistance by anyone ? So this broke club built a new facility. ? Yes , was meant to be a multipurpose facility and funded by the Government in the 90's.

Forecast looks horrible and a good day to have the car there with a thermos and some date loaf.

May need to drop a tall and go small. Perhaps Haren will not play.

I know it's probably just me, but for some reason this sounds like a euphemism.

Land is technically owned by the Office of Recreation and Sport....

Buildings would be owned by the Football Club and if they ever vacated would have to demolish

yes the land is owned by the State Government/Office of Rec and Sport. South pay a peppercorn rent, on a 99 year lease.
All buildings and improvements on the site are owned and paid for over the years by the SAFC.and its sponsors.
The area was originally designed to be a multi sport complex.
South weren't traveling well financially when we shifted to Noarlunga in the Mid 90's.....when has that situation been any different?
Because the ground is on State Government land, the local council are extremely reluctant to help out in any way at all, let alone financially. Thats been the case since South arrived there. The local council is the largest in the state.
Applications for assistance from the federal Govt for women's change-rooms fell on deaf ears (sports rorts) because the ground is in a safe labor seat. Perhaps... the recent news that South now have an arrangement with Woods Panthers Netball club will help in this regard.

The licensed venue-Jimmy Deanes and its pokie revenue gave the club some brief reprieve at that time, however like most pokie venues in SA revenue has almost halved in recent times. South still have a sizeable debt to service.
Jimmy Deanes is an excellent facility as I'm sure any that have patronised it would attest to. However the Peter Darley function room upstairs which has magnificent views over the ground ; and is a fantastic spot to watch a game on an inclement day-is sadly underused, so much so that the club now rents it to nearby Cardijn College.
Unfortunately South dont have a brace of millionaire business men supporters who are willing to stump up for more infrastructure or a council willing to help out...so improvements will only come slowly I fear.

Cheers mate .. Wasn't having a crack btw, just seemed to remember something questionable being reported a few years back now that hit the club hard in the pocket.

Councils can be fickle creatures, some want little to do with sporting clubs, some are happy to be partners. All SANFL clubs are beholden to their local council and their goodwill (or lack of it) and there's not much they can do about it, particularly now that SANFL clubs aren't the big names anymore.
What South do have is plenty of room. Clubs like Norwood and Sturt are very confined in their old precincts and this limits what they can do. I was surprised how small the new Norwood function centre is but the days of expansive SANFL hospitality venues are over.
No club would have gone through the mire of local politics quite like Sturt have since 1985. But it is a tale of how things can turn around. Once the Council would not have replaced a tap if it was related to football activity. Now they have contributed 2 million to change room upgrades and are looking to put more towards grandstand upgrades including offices and function rooms. It's unbelievable the turnaround in attitudes. You do need a Mayor to push things along and get past the naysayers.

Yes. South had a huge free kick with this move but did not use it at well .Im led to believe it was it very well funded and not by South as they were near bankrupt. Bring in the Pokies and they were quite well off but with still no on field success. It was originally designed for a multi purpose facility and certainly not funded from South. It was only a few years ago land behind the Oval was discussed for sporting development as well. I can assure you South wouldn't be able to explore that.
This club has missed so many opportunities to benefit from so much but hasn't managed it all well.

South Adelaide has injected Malcolm Karpany back into its side for the blockbuster against Norwood at Flinders University Stadium.

The former West Coast Eagles has only played two League games this year due to calf injuries but has worked his way back to form in the Reserves during the past fortnight.

Karpany, who hasn’t played League since Round 6, has been named to start in the centre square.

He has been joined in the Panthers’ 25-man squad by Luke Bogle, Anthony Biemans and Lee Hoey, who have all been named on the extended interchange bench.

Medium-sided defender Tyson Brown is unavailable due to a leg injury.
