TEMPERED STEEL.
The die was cast some years ago
And since that time, they seemed to grow,
To the Heroes that we all now know,
The men of tempered steel.
Red, White & Blue, proud colours true,
They represent both me & you,
Through thick & thin, their courage grew,
Those men of tempered steel.
'Tis but a game, some folk might say
but on that football finals day,
Their bodies on the line they lay-
Our men of tempered steel.
And even though they may not win,
We laud them all amid the din,
To lose a game is not a sin,
For these men of tempered steel.
For they know full well, as do we all,
Another day they'll heed the call
And prove forever, once & for all,
That they are the Mighty Bulldogs,
THE MEN OF TEMPERED STEEL!

Great work. It captures the aura of the CDFC very well. My Dad wrote a song back in 1990 after Torrens' final season.
Ashley Street
Saturday afternoon crowds
Queuing up
All along Ashley Street
Well we’d make for the mound
And we’d rally around
We were true gold and blue.
And we were part of the roar
As our home team
Poured onto the ground.
From the opening game
Till September came around
We would cheer
There was always next year
For our heroes
In the gold and the blue
You were part of my growing up
And all my winter weekends;
Tea time discussions
About the magic moments.
It was a working class dream
To wear the colours of the local team.
At least we’d wave them,
When we won,
From the car
Uh huh uh huh uh
Another season was over.
Supporters
Poured onto the ground.
Well we gave them three cheers
As we held back the tears.
There was no more next year.
No more Saturday crowds
Queuing up
All along Ashley Street.
But I still hear the sound
As we rallied around
We were trusted and true
To the legend
Of the gold and the blue

GREAT WORK! A lot of people might say that it is only the SANFL but to a lot of us, it has been our lives & in the winter, we only look forward to one thing & nothing else. We all get on here & bitch & whinge at each other but that is because we are all passionate about the same thing. The footy brings us all together, different people from all walks of life & that is brilliant! I can put myself in your shoes, when reading your poem & understand what a sad day that would have been for you, as I could not imagine what it would be if the same happened to me! If anyone else can add to these poems, then feel free to do so.

To the tune of "MEN OF HARLECH" (wot the poms sang as the zulus were about to cut their heads off in the movie ZULU),
MIGHTY DOGS HOW WE ADORE YOU,
WE WILL ALWAYS BARRACK FOR YOU,
THERE'S NO OTHER TEAM BEFORE YOU,
DOGGIES YOU'RE FOR ME!
MAGPIES, STURT OR NORWOOD,
WE WILL PRESS ON FORWARD,
SOUTH & 'BAYS, THEY MAY HAVE THEIR DAYS
AND EVEN WEST & NORTH IF THEY'RE AT ALL GOOD,
THE OTHER TEAM JUST LIVES OFF DREAMS
AND CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO THE OTHER TALL WOOD,
MIGHTY 'DOGS HOW WE ADORE YOU,
DOGGIES YOU'RE FOR ME!

Drunk as a Monkey when I typed that, as well! Just home from The Bath Hotel-another great pub!
