R1 WWT v Sturt 2.35 PM

Postby DOC » Mon Mar 29, 2021 10:32 am

These game times. WTF.

Last years Premiers face a Sturt side that was inconsistent last year. Both clubs have had a high turnover of a players. WWT seem to cope year in year out with changes. Foote not playing will be a big loss as well as the 7/8 drafted. Stengle, Knight, the 2 Menzels, Cameron and the Much brothers have all been brought in and that recruiting is as good as anyones.

Sturt are looking to Youth this year and I think it will take them a bit of time to become consistent. Patrick Wilson retuning is a big bonus.

I think the Eagles can win this first up by 6 goals.

"No". Redden recovering from shoulder surgery. Thought West outplayed Hannath in trial match Vs Glenelg.

The Eagles have a very good team on paper. I'm struggling to think of too many who are injured that would automatically be named in the side - probably Goldsworthy and Stengle?

Speaking of Stengle I note he is not names in the reserves either. Is he injured? Where is Hall? He got injured late in the season last year and I haven't heard whether he is back training.

Interesting that there is a Phillipou named in our U18 side. Is he any relation to Sam or Michael?

West is a strange one. He has played some very good games then plays a successful poor games. He has the potential to be a very good league player but just needs to find consistency.

Son of Sam, grandson of Peter. Mathaes a very good player.

Stengle serving his AFL suspension, will miss first two SANFL matches.

Think Redden would make our best team.

West has been much more consistent in the trial matches, expect him to be a big improver this season.

At least 10 premiership players not in team.

J. Foote
Nick Hayes
J. Rowe
J. Wehr
L. McNeil
R. Mansell
J. Redden
M. Goldsworthy
S. Lowson
L. Jones
& S. Rowland (ione of seven interchange - injury battle, don't think he will come up)
B. Jungfer (one of seven interchange, may not make team)

Lots of new faces in the team so difficult to accurately assess but one query I have is whether we have named a team that might be a bit too tall and lacking some speed?

I think we'd want to have at least jungfer and Pudney on the bench to give some balance.

Agree "Mr Fuller". One of Thompson, Giuffreda, Seymour or Lehmann has to be relegated to the reserves. Don't think Rowland will play. Coach seems to be a fan of Mitch Mead, wants to get him into the team, will probably take over Rowlands spot if he doesn't come up. Like to see Pudney in the team, he gives a lot of run, but must get stronger at the man and ball.

Sturt with a great end to the 2nd quarter. Kicked the last 3 goals to only be behind by 3 points at the half.

I’m so happy the Menzel brothers came to the Eagles.
Eagles had issues playing as a team until the last then boom

Was a strange free kick game lots of frees to sturt that were a bit strange
I think the sturt fan yelling touched ball didn’t help or hurt but geez a loud voice
