R17 South v North Saturday 2.30

Postby DOC » Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:57 pm

Winner of this probably gets the double chance.

First time round South beat North by 11 points on a breezy day.

Milsolm likely to miss for South with possibly O'Neil coming in. Allmond likely to miss for North with Hartung a possible replacement.

South have beaten North the last 7 times at Noarlunga.

I was impressed with our performance last week but inside 50 conversion and kicking for goal still needs plenty of work.

South by a point.

Maybe Wayne Slattery?
Nah, has to be the Jack "Dinny" Reedman Cup!

Malcolm Whitford - North premiership player in 1960 and then South player and official
Allan White 2 games for North and then a South premiership player
Dean Conder and Paul Zoontjens in the 1980s
And a recent obscure one is Tarquin Brown. 5 games for North in 2008 and 25 games for South in 2012-2013

Of course there also is Trent Mills who was a wonderful player for South and was a key coaching component of the 2018 North premiership and has recently recommenced a coaching role at North.

Off topic but Trent Mills was one of the last players to be drafted by an AFL club but chose to remain with his SANFL club, South Adelaide. He was drafted by the Brisbane Bears in 1992.

He not only played in North's first flag but also captained the team. It was his only year with North.

How quickly we forget. Michael Handby has played for both sides and been involved in coaching both sides in the last few years.

You'd think there would've been a few back in the day, given South Adelaide used to play in North Adelaide.

It has to be the Dinny Reedman cup... captained South to 6 flags in the 1890s then went to North and West. Cricketers of note Ernie Jones and Clem Hill played in 2 of those South Premierships. Reedman also played 1 test match for Australia.

North travelling well atm, but have been impressed with South in their last 2 outings...as DOC says, need to tidy things up re goal kicking though.

You can say that again re : Perrie.

South seem to be slowly getting themselves out of their poor form. I think the 2 weeks (lockdown) break has been kind to them with some players coming back from injuries.
I think we can get over the Roosters if our goal kicking improves - it has been atrocious pretty much most of the year. Players missing (with the yips) 20 metres out with not much of an angle !! This needs to change.

North won't be an easy task.

South by 2 goals.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Agree entirely. He never bought in to playing for the Roosters and after one win early at his time with North he wouldn't even sing the club song.
The standard comment when he was at North was how did he play over 100 AFL games and Clint Alleway never played one. Even an opposition coach made that comment to me.

Correct. North 21 goals 20 behinds defeated Glenelg 22 goals 10 behinds. Perrie 6 goals. Glenelg were unlucky on two counts. It is hard to believe that you can score 22 goals and lose and fancy getting Ian Perrie kicking 6 goals against you.
