Parto to poll well early, Snooky to poll well late

Gibbsy to poll consistently with no real competition from teammates to get the medal

Combe and Tsitas to challenge.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Nice to see Gibbs come back to the SANFL and win the Magarey, jointly.

Anyone know if he's intending to play on again next year?

Well done to the winners.

Good overall coverage/package by C7, moreso than the brownlow.

North Adelaide midfielder Campbell Combe has edged out Glenelg’s Luke Partington to win his first R. O Shearman Medal.

The 2020 Magarey Medallist polled 77 votes, two ahead of Partington, who missed the final two rounds with a hamstring strain.

Averaging 26 disposals, six clearances and 10 tackles, the 26-year-old backed up his stunning campaign last year by continuing to earn the respect of SANFL’s coaches in 2021.

Woodville-West Torrens ball magnet James Tsitas (72) and South Adelaide clearance-winner Bryce Gibbs (71) were the other players to surpass 70 votes.

Eagles star Jack Hayes rounded out the top five with 64 votes.

Combe is just the second Rooster to win the R. O Shearman Medal, joining triple Magarey Medallist James Allan.

Allan has dominated the award, claiming a record six R. O Shearman Medals, including one with Sturt’s Jade Sheedy in 2008.

Voted on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis by the SANFL coaches during the minor round, the R. O Shearman Medal voting, including leaderboard, appears weekly on the SANFL website.

The medal is named after five-time Sturt premiership player and SA Football Hall of Fame member Bob Shearman.

Also massive congrats to Sam Lonergan, according to 7, he polled two votes - the first player to ever poll votes without playing

Well done Tsitas. Very consistent season and always just gets the job done. Would have been nicer if he had won outright but at least we finally got a Medallist!! Sounded like Tsitas in his speech indicated that he'd be playing with the eagles again next season so good news there as well.

Hayes as runner up is also a fantastic effort given the bulk of votes for such medals go to midfielders . I can't recall the last key position player who polled so highly.

Also congratulations to Bryce Gibbs as a worthy joint winner.

That said, I strongly believe that the SANFL need to do away with joint winners going forward and resort to countbacks.

Unfortunately because of who Bryce Gibbs is the media is going to focus much more on him than Tsitas. Already The Advertiser headline on their website currently reads in large bold text "Magarey Medal: Every vote as Gibbs wins in 54-year first". Then in tiny font underneath "Ex-Crows and Carlton star Bryce Gibbs has capped a dream return to the SANFL with a 54-year Magarey Medal first in a tie with James Tsitas.

The Advertiser is an absolute disgrace maginalising Tsitas to make it seem like Gibbs is the main deal. Surely the main story (aside from who won) is that it is the Eagles' first ever Medallist in their history????

They had equal 3s but Gibbs had more 2s so would have won on a countback.
You'd prefer that?

Just a dumb and emotional post by Mr.Fuller

Having a count back is ridiculous, nobody remembers joint winners in few years time, will just be Magarey Medallist James Tsitas. He would be happy to have the media attention on Gibbs, he has much more important business on Sunday!

First Eagles Magarey Medalist, congrats James Tsitas! And it was Malcolm Blight in 1972 and Lindsay Head in 1963, the previous winners from Woodville and West Torrens, so it has been an incredibly long time between sips of Champagne!

Bigger fish to fry on Sunday, but a magnificent player whose fitness, hardness at the ball and skill has been on display since he first arrived half way through last season. So consistent and has slotted in beautifully to what was already a strong Eagles midfield.

Well done to Bryce Gibbs as well. I remember his first season and being lured to a Bays vs Port game at Glenelg just to see what this kid could do on a football field at that age. Always a smooth mover and to win the Magarey after having such a long career at AFL level is testament to his football ability and commitment to his team and craft.

For the SANFL to still attract the quality of player of these two men is great for the competition. To combine that with exciting future AFL champions such as Horne-Francis and to still have dedicated 200 game players running around for various clubs, both from a local background and recruits who have made Adelaide home from interstate, makes the SANFL competition stand out from the rest.
