The Abe Davis Cup, (or maybe Eddie Fry Cup) is usually a keenly fought battle with not much separating the sides at the end.
For South, always seems like Haines gets a lot of it, and Broadbent is obviously important to them. Sturt have been winning, albeit they probably should have lost last week. But maybe signs of them maturing is that they win games they would have lost in the past.
On the soon to be dug up Wigan Oval, Sturt by a couple of goals.

Great result.
Nice to win a close one for a change.
oh so very sweet to win at Unley too, hasnt been a happy hunting ground for us for a while.
Our defence in Garthwaite- who didnt seem to have an opponent...?- Haines Cavalino & Summerton were rock solid all day.
Wilkinson and Fittt suddenly found their mojo in the second half and made the most of our scattergun forward delivery..

Job well done..

Dull game for the first 3 terms which produced just 9 goals in favourable footy weather. The game opened up in the last and South finished the stronger. The win gives the club an outside chance of a September appearance. Games to come are against West, Port and WWT- 3 wins and some luck are an obvious must.

Garthwaite, Brooksby, Haines, Ramsay and Sampson named best for South, while Voss was Sturt's standout.

Noted that only 1 of 8 teams kicked 10 goals or more today despite the conditions. Feel as though a number of games have been a chore to watch this season, saved to some extent by close finishes (ie 10 of South's 15 games have been decided by 2 goals or less)

Not a great spectacle but that is often footy these days. Overuse, chipping the ball around in defence, then look up to see no options up the field. South deserved their win. Some Sturt forwards were unnacountable for their opponents allowing players like Haines free will to roam around.
South royalty gathered afterwards at the Cremorne pub to toast their win. Deep in enemy territory, Paul Kristoris etc looked to be enjoying the win.

South still need a lot of luck and results going their way but there is still a flicker of hope down at Noarlunga

Matthew Powell Cup perhaps? Gary Mousley and Michael Bennett honourable mentions.

Good summary. The Scooter McGlone Cup heading to Noarlunga?
