Obviously needed a hit out but weird to play them in a trial game just a week out from playing them for points.
Sorry Boon but the Maggies look like they are in for a long year despite having a team that looks decent enough on paper

Too top heavy mate and little / no class at ground level.

Did you go to the trial game on Sunday, Boon Man?
I thought Hagan showed he will be a good player at this level.

Hope for a tie. Playing the long game, to keep both out of the finals.

Having been to Port’s two trials, I’m expecting this one to turn ugly. Adelaide by 70+

My youngest is playing in the mini league in this game at half time so I’ll get along for a look.
If anyone sees me on the ground helping be sure to hurl abuse at me!

I realise I’m flogging a dead horse but I’m bewildered as to how selecting this game to be the SANFL season opener for the channel 7 coverage promotes the SANFL in any way…I would have thought scheduling a Sunday game (say Sturt v Bays) and televising that would have been much more appropriate..

Doesn't the televised game tend to depend alot on the AFL fixture and what AFL games 7 intends to broadcast though?
I.e it's usually a saturday afternoon game as usually channel 7 only has the rights to televise the Sunday afternoon game (but this changes if the Crows or Power are playing on the Saturday afternoon where seven might not broadcast the Sunday game)?

Cost would come into it, they already have cameras etc set up for the next game

I get that - and scheduling round 1 against a showdown not ideal either. Still not sure why the SANFL didn’t start last week? Would have been good to avoid the showdown … I realise it’s all designed to cater for the AFL, particularly with the Gather round the SANFL appear to be appeasing the AFL more than ever. Just a bit sad that’s all…
