North sack Daniel Hargraves

Postby Wedgie » Fri Oct 20, 2006 5:41 pm

From the http://www.nafc.com.au:

Following post season player / coach reviews, Daniel Hargraves will be pursuing new football interests.

North Adelaide would like to acknowledge Daniel's contribution to the Club and wishes him well in his future pursuits.

Don't expect a comment from me on the matter in the next couple of days unless I have too many bundys tonight.
One very upset black duck.

Not that he would be thighest paid person on the list but it looks like the NAFC are making room for new "recruits" for 2007.

fair enough I say....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Not even close.
Mind you if he'd taken the money a couple of other clubs had offered him in the early 2000s he would have been.

Whoops, I said I wouldn't comment on the matter didn't I?

Damn, no more, "one little duck went out one day......"

All jokes aside he is one of the best recruits to come to a SANFL club since 1991, in terms of longetivity and performance...

Doesn't seem the best way to say goodbye to a player who'd been so important to North for so many years. IMHO, he was no where near the player he once was this year, but he surely still demands a place on the list. I wonder if he'll play at another league club or that will be it? For the majority of this century I would have had him in my team as full forward ahead of Daniel Schell and as an opposition supporter, I knew every time he had the ball for a set shot inside 60 it was a goal for North Adelaide.

Would be interesting to find out the reason North and Hargraves have parted ways.

One of the real characters of the league over the past half decade. Definately one of the better recruits since the AFL introduction to SA.

He did show signs of slowing down quite a bit this year.

Can others help me out?
What sort of similar "club men" have clubs given the arse in recent years (for various reasons)?
The only one that comes immediately to my mind is Dean Howard.
I've also taken note that a club like Sturt basically allows their champions to retire on their own terms, is it perhaps different circs?
I'd be interested in others opinions on this.

Bob Hank would be the most famous, although obviously not recent and probably more the coach than the club.

Similar club men at the Eagles would be Hall, Floreani and Frewen who have finished/finishing their careers in the reserves and were fine league players in their day. I can't see why Hargraves couldn't go this way if he wanted.

Seriously what IS the story,

Has he been out-and out sacked, basically surplus to requirements, OR is it similar to the Ben Hart scenario, here is your contract for 2007, take it or leave it and he has left.......

Loyalty and club commitment obviously mean nothing, this club has just lost 6 members for 07, pity they couldn't put the truth on their official website that he had been sacked, one wonders who the others maybe

he showed loyalty to north & north do this to him i know for a fact (wedgie alluded to it) that both glenelg & central offered him huge money to shift but he declined as he said north is the first club he's played for that he felt at home with, & had a wanted a sort of family enviroment

i think this is disgraceful as clubs want loyalty but wont return the favour

i wonder whether he was given a chance to retire first rather than announce he'd been sacked ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Could this be the end of the Jarman entertainment mantra after three finals failures?

What next asking Chris Ladhams to have the natural hair color down stairs?
