Must admit my eyes were raised over a few in regard to radio.
5RPH did some great interviews this year and as good as Peter Walsh is surely there has to be some sort of qualifying period, its not as the ABC do a big coverage by radio.
I must have blinked when Channel 7 made their significant contribution?

on-line

Where is the acknowledgement for the work that some people do promoting the SANFL on-line.Not wanting to blow hot air up anyones butt here but I keep in touch with this site and THE ROOST daily for news about my team and the league in general. The hours and hours that some people must put in just on these sites alone is more important to me than a token interview here and there and being paid to do it.

About time for a new catergory SANFL lets keep up with it please!!!!!

What a load of garbage. They spend all season totally ignoring the SANFL and then won an award for it. I've seen everything now. My guess is they wouldn't have even been there to accept the award.

I am quite angry about this. Who is responsible?

This is even more of a joke. :? I bet he wouldn't be able to name more than 10 SANFL players, and his commentary during the finals was terrible - constantly stuffing up players names and calling South Adelaide "South Launceston" on multiple occasions.

BOOO, no 5RPH, they've done more for this comp, then 90% of the winners put together.

I am appalled by these results. Is the SANFL just trying to curry favour with the bigwigs so they get more coverage next year? Won't work - the commercials and ABC will now pat themselves on the back and say "There you go, that's all we've got to do." Only C31, RPH, Life FM and the 2 major Footy Forums are getting off their bums to actively promote the SANFL. I'll bet 5AA and 7 are already running smug promos about how they support the 'local comp'. "Local, yeah we're local...that is when we're not taking our feed from 3AW or bleating about the AwFL."

It's a sad indictment of how the system works - I wouldn't even be surprised if $ changed hands. Stations love winning awards. 5AA entered Jon Blake into a national radio comedy competition, unbeknownst to him, and he won it. 5AA has been running self-gratifying promos all week. Blakey came on, to his credit, and said the award was deeply embarrassing given the complete lack of talent he was pitted against. He basically slammed everything about the award and has been taking the piss out of it ever since. 5AA still runs the promo.

Maybe SA Footy / Footy SA should run its own Media Award - it would be a lot more objective and meaningful. Personally, big kudos to all at RPH, C31, Life FM, the forum webmasters & contributors (and to some extent, the ABC and 'Tiser). Take some of these away and it might suddenly dawn on the SANFL what they are contributing to the 'local comp' as the Idiot Twins call it.

I sent 5AA an e-mail online this morning telling them what a crock full of crap their award was and how 5RPH did more for the SANFL in one afternoon than 5AA did all season. The sad part is KG and Cornes honestly believe they make a wonderful contribution to SA footy at local level, and they wouldn't understand. They remind me more of Waldorf and Statler from the muppets each day.

Cornesy has been downright disgraceful in his handing of the Kosimina situation this week. Trouble is, I keep tuning in on the way home from work just to hear how much of a d***head he is being. That's a lack of competition for you.

At least 3 other radio stations make a more significant contribution than 5AA.
At least 3 telly channels contribute more than channel 7. Heck, they didn't even telecast the Magarey count!
As for print media, well it's hard not to be the major contributor when you're the only paper in town.

The SANFL has to be taking the piss.

Truly a grand idea zippy. Let the fans have a say.

It disturbs me that CK can put his heart and soul into running a dedicated SANFL program and not get it recognised by the SANFL. How much easier would it be for CK to drum up some funding for this show if it was recognised with an award from the SANFL. I will take little solace in knowing that Channel 7 provides award-winning contribution to the league if and when the SANFL footy show goes under (god forbid).

Having now read most of the posts above, I see I'm not alone in my outrage.

Don't get to see the news every night, but Ch7 seem to have had more stories on the SANFL this year than what other stations have had in the past few years, so don't disagree with that one.

The other two "significant contributions" are a bit of a joke - especially the Advertiser. Apart from the posters, their preview and writeup for the GF was a total disgrace, the writeup was three pages from the back. The Power and Crows get more for a minor round game, and if you base it on crowd numbers, I would guess Port's average would be about the GF crowd this year.

The C31 GF show was the best TV show of the year hands down. Imagine if that could have found a spot on commercial telly.

Ch9 might have done the Magarey, but there is no doubt Kym Dillion far preferred being at the Crows count the night after.

Very disappointing. I heard your email addrssed on Five Adelaide Arrogants this morning Adelaide Hawk. From what i understand KG didn't even attend the function but the Tassie Medallist did.

I'm gonna write a letter to the editor at the Advertiser about this. I'd also like to write something to the SANFL - anyone know an appropriate email address? Maybe if a few people do this the SANFL might take a different approach.

Good point made earlier about media also including websites. No award for a website is available though. Maybe there should be categories for community radio/tv as well but realistically these media were the MAINSTAY of promoting the local comp. How can RPH broadcast 53 games this year and not win an award? How can C31 do the best part of 30 SANFL shows without any recognition? How can Peter Walsh and KG and Cornesie get awards for what was effectively a finals push for coverage?

I believe the significant contribution award was associated with the Gladstone appeal. Without dimishing the value of the appeal, this was a workplace incident that killed three people in a country town. However, I don't see the linkage to the AFL/SANFL other than Bob Hammond's commendable efforts.

In future, if the SANFL want to demonstrate a community commitment, how about doing more to support and recognise community media?

Agree also that maybe the two prime SANFL forums, competitive as they may be, could work together to have media awards that are made at the judgement of the fans in a similar way to POTY awards on club websites. Question is, would the SANFL permit these to be made on the night where they obviously want to control the whole process?

Thank you very much for some very kind words in this forum, it is truly appreciated.

All I can say is, having seen the vast work 5RPH do, I was amazed they did not make it through to the finalists for Best Commentary. DB, Darryl, Phil, Paul and John all know the competition inside out and back to front, and I was personally very mystified at that.

My warmest congratulations to Zac on his inaugurual Media Award. An old sparring partner on the footy field in our Hills days, and a pleasure to have on the show. It was fantastic to see his dedication and enthusiasm for our league recognised in this way. Also great to see Soders' natural enthusiasm and knowledge rewarded with his first gong. Congratulations also to Wedgie for making the final 4 of the Best Football Photo - I don't know a lot about photography, but his shot of Ben Moore really captured a great moment perfectly.
