capitalise

Postby bayman » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:04 pm

well straight away the sanfl should capitalise by having a friday night, saturday night & a double header sunday & make it a $5.00 weekend of local footy with the double header included for the $5.00 & have the carparks free (forget ch2 for one w/end)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Not a good idea Bayman, burn 'em once and the ABC big wigs in Sydney will use it to burn the SANFL for ever (which they are itching to do). There goes a major marketing plank / selling point for all the SANFL clubs, exposure on TV for major sponsors.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

So why can't they do the Friday Night match and telecast it on the Saturday? Easy fixed. I get the feeling it isn't that easy.

Most importantly the AFL have given Adelaide another AFL free weekend when the split round occurs.
The SANFL MUST capitilise on this!

I don't think the WAFL should be our source of inspiration when it comes to getting crowds MT.

I don't think the AFL even need to dictate, Whicker & Co. seem to bend over before they are asked.

You are correct that we need to have less consideration for when AFL games are on, but I think playing a round directly against the showdown would be suicide.

yes i agree with you on both your points raised.

we shouldnt play all the round against the AFL games that are played here but surely 1 or 2 games would be fine.

not too sure on every club but

norwood to have all home games at night. either friday or sat.

south and glenelg to play all home games on sundays.

A good start, North and Central don't need to be moved from Saturday arvos if the Crows or Power are on as their fans aren't as fickle as others.
Also the Magpies can play on Saturdays except for when it clashes with the Power.
Never put the Eagles against a Crows game and keep them, Sturt and West fairly flexible to tie with the above rules and the SANFL have a good starting point for their 2007 draw.

Ive just had a quick look and its not too bad a draw for the SANFL, in summary:

Adelaide AFL clubs draw on Sat arvo
Rd 1 - Port at Subiaco on late Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 2 - No games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 3 - Showdown on Sat arvo, big impact, move all games to Fri and Sun
Rd 4 - Port at MCG on Sat arvo, only impact for Magpies
Rd 5 - No games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 6 - No games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 7 - Port at Aami, only impact for Magpies
Rd 8 - No games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 9 - Adelaide play at Telstra Dome, miminal impact may want to move Eagles and Glenelg
Rd 10 - Adelaide play at MCG, minimal impact may want to move Eagles and Glenelg
Rd 11 - No games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 12 - Split round, 2 sat arvos with no game, no impact on SANFL, SANFL have huge change to promote one weekend when no AFL games in Adelaide
Rd 13 - No games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 14 - Port at TD, impact only for Magpies
Rd 15 - Port at Aami, impact only for Magpies
Rd 16 - Adelaide at Freo, late afternoon game, minimal impact on SANFL
Rd 17 - no games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 18 - no games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 19 - Port at Aami, impact only for Magpies
Rd 20 - no games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 21 - no games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL
Rd 22 - no games on Sat arvo, no impact on SANFL

In summary out of the 23 weekends there is:
15 weekends where the AFL will not impact on Sat afternoon SANFL games.
3 weekends which would slightly impact on Port only
2 weekends which would significantly impact on Port only
1 weekend that would significantly impact on everyone (Sat arvo showdown)
2 weekends that would have a slight impact on everyone (Crows away on Sat arvo)

Really only 1 weekend that will significantly impact on SANFL crowds as a whole when everyone would need to be moved away from Sat arvo, should be easy to maximise attendance for the SANFL looking at the above with minimal creative programming needed.

Some Sunday games for Glenelg but I think you'll find most of the die hards want Saturday arvo, oh yeah, and a permanent bar on Snouts hill and a dunny......

How much will Port Power playing at AAMI on a Saturday afternoon affect crowds at other SANFL games not involving the Magpies competing at the same time? It seems Port Power were keen to play AFL games on a Saturday afternoon at home which IMO is a bit rude considering that is the traditional SANFL timeslot.
