More retro than a Wa Wa Nee concert

Postby SimonH » Fri Oct 27, 2006 9:55 pm

I reckon that this is incredibly cute. Queensland setting up a player retention fund to stop raids from those marauding, cashed-up SANFL clubs. Pretty funny to see the boot on the other foot. Talk of player retention funds makes me feel like it's the 1980s and I'm a teenager again.

Choose Life! And Keep Greg Whittlesea, Michael Aish and Chris McDermott in SA!

At least Qld is now good enough to need one (or think that it needs one); I don't think that any Sydney AFL clubs are quaking at the prospect of the SANFL raiding their players.

They have to an extent, a $10K price on the head of any VFL and TAC cup player before they talk match payments....

Basically the AFL don't want kids leaving their home state to play footy unless it is on an AFL list.....

Speaking of 'Choose life', you just can't go past this quote...

'Choose life, choose a job, choose a career, choose a family, choose a f***ing big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments, choose a starter home, choose your friends. Choose leisure-wear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite and hire purchase and a range of f***ing fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the f*** you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing f***ing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, f***ed up brats you've spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future, choose life. But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life, I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons! Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?'

An Australian pop band of the 80s, similar look to Pseudo Echo with the keyboard guitars and huge mullets. I think their biggest song was Stimulation.

I just did the google search, never heard of them either:

Wa Wa Nee was an Australian funk/pop band active from approximately 1985 to 1989. Led by the songwriting team of Paul Gray and Steve Williams, the band had four singles in the Australian Top 20 and one ("Sugar Free") in the U.S. top 30. The band's self titled debut album went platinum in Australia.
