MEDIA RELEASE
Monday, 13 th November 2006
GODDEN AND GROOM JOIN THE TIGERS
Glenelg Football Club is pleased to announce the newest appointments to the side in
2007: Michael Godden as Reserves Coach and Assistant Coach Chris Groom who
will prove essential in strengthening the Clubs drive toward a sustainable and
successful 2007 season.
Former West Adelaide player of 11 years at league level, Michael Godden played 89
League and 61 reserves games and was listed on the Adelaide Crows Senior playing
list in 92/93.
Godden turned to coaching after a serious knee injury sidelined him and cut short his
playing days. He became West Adelaide Assistant Coach in 2003-2006 and was
involved in the 2003 grand final. In 2006 he became the Reserves Coach for
Westies, and took the side to third position after two consecutive years finishing on
the bottom.
Godden’s philosophy is based on building a winning environment throughout the
team, achieved through instilling respect and discipline and maintaining appropriate
levels of communication and understanding.
Chris Groom originally played for South Adelaide before playing for Adelaide Crows,
Fremantle and North Melbourne. Groom has been appointed as Glenelg Football
Club’s Forward Coach for the 2007 season. “He has an eye for talent and the skills
for teaching and developing our younger players” Senior Coach Mark Mickan
commented.
Pre-season training is commencing today, Monday, November 13 th and with the
addition of the new coaches to the teams, alongside the new recruits and the
experienced players, Glenelg Football Club has created a sturdy and stable
foundation on which to build a tougher, faster and harder team for a strong and
successful 2007 season.

I was thinking the same when I read the quite in the press release that said Groomy "has an eye for talent". Maybe it was he who convinced the Shockers that he was better than McLeod?

Good luck to Michael Godden, absolutely respected at Westies.

Is it now compulsory for a certain quota of Bay coaches to come from the Bloods?
