Took my lad to Unley Oval tonight to kick the footy while Mrs Dutchy was elsewhere and to my suprise Sturt were training. ABout 50 blokes and balls were out.
Any other clubs started?
Also saw a regular poster on here out there training hard...

Roosters start Monday, but some of the young guys have officially started already.

Norwood started last Monday 6 November. Six sessions a week already I think.

Saw a coach load of footy-types training at the snakepit at Largs last night. Didn't recognise anyone but I've seen Sturt & the cocks train there in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if it was an SANFL team

I thought he was coaching Sturt not South?

Sorry mate, I looked for a pic on the Advertisers site but its not there but if you dont see one earlier I can scan it for you.
Basically its a pic of Macgowan running preseason training wearing an official Sturt top which 70% white 30% navy blue and navy blue shorts. The top has the SFC monogram on the front like the guernseys and it has the Bar Zaar and Castle Tavern logos on it also.
Nice looking top, South should use it!
(The players were running around in the right colours though)

ah, i get it, thought it might have been a stuff up by the tiser with a south heading and story about sturt
yeah, our official shirts are predoinantly dark blue. i know rick was photographed in one that had a strip of light blue on it but maybe they still have the all navy ones too. was there an article too or just a pic???
EDIT: so, if the castle logo is on it, that means we should be getting in there then instead of all this crap holding us back....hmmm...

Rick Macgowan says he isn't one to hold grudges.
While the memory of Central District's shock 2002 grand final loss to Sturt still hurts, the new Double Blues mentor is on a mission at Unley.
Acting in an official capacity for the first time by kicking off preseason training last night, the former Bulldogs premiership star was already feeling comfortable in his adopted colours.
"You can't hold a grudge; you've got to get over things pretty quickly" said Macgowan, who played 222 SANFL games with the Bulldogs.
"That was very embarassing (in 2002) personally and as a team we certainly let ourselves down. Hence we weren't that fond of Sturt after doing that to us.
"You have to respect that, they took us on and were just too good but I'm over that one now."
Even if Macgowan hadn't dealt with his inner demons, he would have been too busy to worry about them since being appointed at Sturt less than four weeks ago.
While trying to run his own business, Macgowan has also been furiously setting up the coaching panel around him as well as attracting new players to the club.
His efforts have enticed former Power wingman Donald Dickie to be his reserves coach next season. Dickie, a development coach with Woodville-West Torrens this year, has joined as assistant coach Luke Norman and Macgowan in leaving the Eagles.
"When I got the job, they were the two I wanted and I was very fortunate they came my way, "Macgowan said.
"I feel very comfortable with them around me and they'll help me out for sure."
Tapping into a range of experiences is a high priority for Macgowan, who has also acted as an assistant at North Adelaide and state level.
"Being involved with a couple of other clubs you get a look at how they operate," Macgowan said.
"As experience there's no better than experiencing other environments; you get to know the players well which is going to help when you go to another club."
Losing experienced defender Michael Curtis to retirement won't help Sturt, but its a key backman Macgowan is searching for to help the club rise.
Macgowan feels Sturt underachieved in 2006 and he expects a resurgence at Oxford Terrace could come sooner than some think.
"There's been a lot of bad press getting around about Sturt but I think if we get everything right from day one we could improve pretty quickly," he said.

yeah saw the shirt and I had to look abotu 3 times to work it out...it looks a lot like a South Adelaide or Carlton top...all the players had pale blue shorts with dark blue trimming....I thought it looked like McGowan running with them, few other older guys running also so I dare say they are the assistant coaches

Was it one of those footys that the players were handing out to kids in the crowd after games?
I've seen a few kids kicking those balls around lately. I reakon that has been a masterstroke by the club. Not only gives kids the incentive to get down the park and have a kick, but also makes them aware of the GFC and the SANFL. The other clubs ought to start something similar.
