are they better or worse than when they leave i think mainly worse & here is a couple to start with

ben thompson glen,stk, glen.
luke ottens glen,melb (poss someone else as well),glen
scott russell sturt, c'wood, then sturt did not want him back

there's a few any others out there & do they come back better or worse ?

luke mccabe come back & is/was a good player any others ? cd,hawks,cd

John Platten came back but he was knackered. Malcolm Blight topped the SANFL goalkicking upon his return, Greg Phillips and Bruce Abernethy played in Port premiership teams when they came home far too early. Cornes won a Tassie Medal when he returned from the Kangaroos, Ebert won his 4th Magarey. Neville Roberts was great after he returned from Richmond. There have been many.

blight,cornes,ebert & roberts were from the era before, i mean the afl thats why i said delisted

Probably the less said about Robbie Ahmat the better, for one...

Would be curious to hear any opinions on Simon Cox, who returned to the SANFL system, but not the same club...fitness levels looked way, way, way below par for this level.

Clive Waterhouse had a great first season back, very indifferent the next (allowing for injury). Adam Kingsley looked to have underestimated the standard of the competition (even allowing for him being delisted at the end of this year) in his SANFL games in 2006.

Simon Feast was never the same after the knee injury in Sydney, but his heart has grown even more, to compensate.

On the other hand, Ben Moore knuckled right down and has been a class performer ever since. Ben Nelson is another that has continued to enhance his reputation.

With Coxy it was purely injuries. Because of the injuries he couldn't get fit, hence the comments about his fitness.
He was fantasic for the club off the field and was a big part of the ressies premiership this year.
Most of the recruits for North from I/S have been great like this, for eg Clint Alleway ran the Junior Member Pie Night with the help of Leigh Ryswyk and a few others.
Im not disappointed in Cox (or Alleway) as you can tell they are quality people who are their for the club.
Koopsy's another issue and was a mistake in retrospect.

Squizzy didnt play many AFL games but he probably really benefited from being the AFL system a little while.

2 magarey medals and a premiership aint to bad !!!

Hey? Kingsley was a class above everyone he played against when playing for the pies. His first game or two were a bit sluggish, but that was because he was coming back from a 8 or so week injury. Once he got some fitness, he dominated.

Bayman, the decision to not play SANFL football at the end of his AFL career was entirely Scott Russells. He cited the huge commitment required to play SANFL football as the reason for him not wanting to come back to it, so headed directly to the amateur league.

Troy Lehmann came back to North after playing at Collingwood and Brisbane. Played some pretty handy football for us as well but had to retire prematurely after playing in pain for many seasons after back problems caused by bad weight training at Collingwood.
Scott Bamford came back after playing at Fitzroy,Brisbane and Geelong. I think last year was probably his best year of footy.
Danny Morton had a stellar year in 1997 after coming back from Fitzroy and prior to being picked up by Port.

Bamford's 2006 season was the best i've seen from him. Great to see him sign on for 2007.

Coxy is definately determined and passiionate, Im usually a pretty good call on spotting that in players, he could have easily done a "Koops" but is sticking around and I said previously his efforts in helping out with the ressies side in his first year at the club when he didn't have to show the sort of guy he is. A very impressive character is Cox.

If he wanted to get fit he could have, mentally Coxy's checked out of playing good league footy, as you have pointed at Wedgie his future lies at North mentoring / coaching the youngsters...

You guys seem to have a bit of a chip about Coxy.
You've obviuosly had different knee injuries to Coxy and I.
I struggled to even walk to the front door let alone get down on the ground or do any sort of stationary boxing.
I couldn't even swim and struggled to drive.
Coxy's knee was a lot worse than mine too.
I soon ballooned and it would be worse for a person who's metabolism has been used to training in the AFL.

Daniel Healy , Martin Mckinnon , Luke Mcabe all returned to premierships with Centrals.
