It'd be good if everyone would do this exercise for their club's 2006 season so we can see who has players from where and it'd be interesting to compare. This would be a great thread to be critical or supportive of the different club's recruiting philosophies, etc as the facts will be there for all to see as opposed to just trolling. There's some grey areas though, for eg I've included players who have played juniors for North but were recruited from I/S in their respective state (Motlop and Cubillo) but we should be able to use it as a guide for other clubs:

lol, yeah, even though he had more chance in 2006 as opposed to 2005 when he played league! Seriously, for his position he was probably unlucky that Perrie played games for North in 2006 and not 2005 as that was probably the difference. Speaking of, has anyone heard the latest on McEntee?
Last I heard he was having talks with the Bays.

Another thing that stands out to me is that North had 6 "discards" who played 87 games between them, yet every single one of them came from clubs who won less games than North. Some serious questions should be raised about those clubs.

Another interesting breakdown and probably more to your point mark is that new recruits accounted for 95 games in 2006. Considering they replaces players like Huskes, Motlop, Roe, Cook, Jeffries, Toia, Gilham, Shee and Grocke who would have easily played more than 95 games between them in a single season it just goes to show how much more opportunity there was at North for youngsters in 2006, I don't think anyone could deny that. Might be a different story in 2007 with only Hargraves being the notable out so far, probably why the club has virtually finished their recruiting dependent upon what happens in the PSD & RD.

That leaves Down (only 3 games), Gatto (Where did he come from???) & Kaesler (?NWD?). Wedgie you can not use that as a defence as Grocke, Oakley from NA, Cooper & Dabrowski all had impacts at the eagles, Dean Howard always played games with his contract and was not into pre-season at westies and went to Prospect and got himself super fit again. He needed the change and the roosters are the winners there.

Wedgie it is all a play on words as well and when you include that centrals that ended up higher than the roosters what does that say. Norths are chokers in finals. No they are not but you are making a defence for an unanswerable right or wrong arguement. End of the day , good luck to norths with these lads and i hope redandblack doesnt post our list when all the signings are complete

You've completely lost the plot and missed my point completely dash61.
Yes, the comment was generalistic and despite being 100% accurate my point does not include Central as obviously there's exceptions to every case, Im sure Wakelin wouldn't have made any difference to Central's campaign in 2006 that's quite obvious. Another example would be the North, Eagles and Grocke but once again there'd be an exception there too as North had better forwards and Grocke's wouldn't have got a game even if he hadn't been "discarded" so no mistakes were made with those 2 players IMHO.
My point was its interesting the mistakes lower clubs make, North did it in the 90s with Squire.
You have supporters of clubs at the lower end of the spectrum complaining that the big factor in the SANFL is $$$ yet there's players they got rid of who went on to be very very valuable players at higher up clubs with money not being a factor.
I think as a West fan you'd agree with my point that clubs such as West needed to have a good hard look at themselves, I think they have and they're on the way to turning things around.

Im looking forward to others posting similar breakdowns so we'll have more statistical data to make conclusions from. It could be inaccurate and distorted to just make assumptions looking at one club like I have already but nonetheless it does raise some interesting topics of discussion.

West have made a lot of mistakes in the last three years, Dean Howard was not a mistake, financially for West a win fall and the fact he need a new enviroment is the howard reasons.

Shubert was a youngster that slipped through the system and that happens to all clubs, the big mistake in "My Opinion" was letting Brad Dabrowski go when you had a team that lacked height.

How is Kasler a 'discard' he was very much a required player at the end of 2002 at sturt. He won the BnF for our Reserves. But decided to leave for more oppertunities at 1st team football. As far as I know he was most certainly not a discard.

The fact that Deano needed a new environment was a mistake.
The fact that Schubert was let go was a mistake.
The fact that Dabrowski was let go was a mistake.
(We wont even talk about Brett Backwell! )
I'm sure there's plenty of others and as you said all clubs make them just to varying degrees and with varying results. Its probably no coincidence that the clubs that have made the least mistakes have been consistently playing off against each other in the GFs in recent years.

North fans still cringe over McDermott's effort with Damien Squire.
Luckily we've been on the receiving end of mistakes more often than the giving end since then.

Not only was Gatto playing footy for Eastern Park, he was playing B grade too. Played against him around 3-4 years back and he took a huge mark on me, stood on my head! Saved some face though - he kicked it straight back to me on the mark!!! He is a gun though, remember thinking that day what a waste. Great to see him running around with the roosters.

A premiership ladder on the most financial clubs would be interesting.

they made a grand final.

Interesting. Considering the dogs have a North discard who is a premiership player.

Nearly 75% of the players are home grown by the dogs. Good northern boys doing the club proud.

Well you might be able to go watch him playing for the demons again this year. I spoke to him last night and he said he was pretty much a definate to play with the demons.

I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago at the B&F and he said that old chestnut was just a joke and that he'd definately be fronting up for North in 2008.
