MEDIA RELEASE
5 December 2006

The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the following new recruits for
Season 2007:

Luke Buckland is a 21 year old, 189 cm rangy half back that is highly skilled and strong
overhead. A former Victorian Country representative who spent the 2004 and 2005
seasons on Geelong's rookie list and played 34 VFL games in that time. Luke played
for South Barwon in the Geelong Football League in 2006.

Simon McCormack is a 28 year old midfielder, who spent the 2000 season with the
West Adelaide Football Club in an injury plagued year after completing pre-season with
Port Power. Simon played representative football for the Ovens and Murray Football
League for 7 years, while also representing Vic Country for 4 years.
Simon said I am looking forward to coming across to West Adelaide and playing
football in the second strongest league in Australia. More importantly I am looking
forward to the challenge of helping the West Adelaide Football Club become successful
again.

Scott Turner, General Manager
Football Operations said these two players add
experience and depth to the midfield. Both are classy players who will use the football
well and set up play from half back.

lol, not at all, I just find it amusing that North get criticised for having 5 players recruited from Victoria over several years on their books when Westies have probably recruited at least that amount of Victorians in the last month!
And it seems to be the general call when a club is recruiting smartly: "Salaray Cap!"

In all seriousness, good luck to Westies, if things go well I could see them going past Sturt and Norwood and even the Bays.

The bottom line is westies have not been up to scratch for the last two and a half seasons and to restore some respect we must be competitive and start winning more games

Agreed mate, that's why Norwood won the 1990 premiership and South and Port battled out the 2006 Grand Final.

$$$$$$$$$$= SUCCESS= SOUTH making finals 2006
$$$$$$$$$$= SUCCESS=NORTH making finals 2005/2006
$$$$$$$$$$ =SUCCESS= WEST making grand final 2003
$$$$$$$$$$= SUCCESS= CENTRALS 2000+

No $$$$$$$$ = lack of success 2005/2006 refer STURT + NORWOOD
No $$$$$$$$= lack of success 2000/2003 refer NORTH

South, not successful in 2006, no flag.
North, not successful in 2005/6, no flag.
West, not succesful in 2003, no flag (and no different financially to last year, hence backing up my point).
Sturt won a flag in 2003 (Norwood are just shit, ;))
North in 2000/2003 had nothing to do with money, we were still recruiting the Chad Davis's and Rhino O'Connors.
Very poor eg's filled with holes that sent your argument even further backwards mal.

PS Your definition of success and mine are completed different, only Central, Sturt and the Eagles have been successful this century IMHO. 3 complete different extemes in finances.

Definition of success=favourable results , not necessarily premierships.
If you read dictionarys it says nothing about winning flags.

As I said mate, I define success in regard to footy as premierships.

Money is important but if you look over the history of football for over 100 years its quite evident.
Smart footy clubs = success
Dumb footy clubs = no success
Easily the most important factor that has been proven over and over and over again.

QUOTE : 'Norwood are just shit'

FACT : 2nd most successfull PREMIERSHIP club on SANFL history= Norwood

Lets not beat around the bush WEDGIE, the clubs who can afford to
spend $$$$ invaraibly finish higher than the clubs who dont.
REFER the millenuim of 2000-2100
Also look at your club, who spent more in 2004/2006 then 2000/2003 :?:
If Im wrong about NA I will bow out gracefooly.

Is Scott Turner @ Westies the former Richmond fullback from the mid 90's?

Yes, that is true- we didn't spend anywhere near the salary cap 00-03, yet when we did 04-06, it was automatically assumed we were over, when in fact we weren't (due to have room to move)

Heard Charles Slattery has left Westies and training with the dogs. Interesting no real mention of North rorting the salary cap on this thread. But gets defended anyway. Guilty concious maybe ???

I think Charles is training with Centrals.
