Skippy to stay an Eagle

Postby Dogwatcher » Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:04 am

Good news for Eagles supporters - Hayden Skipworth didn't get picked up by either the Power or the Roos in the 'pre-season' draft.

Port picked up Norwood's Adam Cockshell and Kangaroos picked up Gippsland Power's Ben Ross.

So Skipworth'll now stay with WWTFC.

I was hoping the Roos would pick him up ;)

Sam Jacobs has gone to Carlton with the first pick of the rookie draft. McIntyre to the Crows and Gavin Hughes to the Bulldogs.

in all seriousness can the Eagles afford him now they will have to find room under their cap now he isnt an AFL player? A few other blokes intheir team would be on nice coin...now that Skippy will be a full time SANFL player other clubs might be interested in getting him and if money is right he might be happy to listen...thoughts?

Hasn't the salary cap increased for next year? If big spenders North can afford to bring home 3 ex AFL players on top of their recruits for this year as well as another gun VFL recruit, the Eagles should be fine. Perhaps this is the reason the Eagles have not announced any recruits at all for next year at this stage.

I hope Skipworth stays on at the Eagles unlike past delistings like Crowell, Manfield, Shattock etc.

Touchy PR - all he's said was that you guys are bringing home three ex-players and another "gun recruit".
That would probably equate to big spending. No mention of North's salary cap - just that they're "big spending"

Why would he leave the Eagles, just played in a winning GF team.
Would be dead cert to play league all next year, and I'm sure the Eags would have stitched him up.

Don't forget some important facts. Hargraves gone, Koops gone, Gill gone, Wintle veterans list, Bamford veterans list. Add to that the fact the cap has increased. Fair bit of room to work with there.

You reckon he might get a league game all year...big statement

Im thinking you never see many players leave the Eagles, as they have had many players on the AFL lists and therefore havent had to fit them under the cap, they have been able to look after their good players $ wise...maybe thiey might struggle to meet the market if Skippy puts himself out there
