Club AGMs - Announcements, Disclosures and Profits/Losses

A thread for all to keep in touch with what clubs have achieved or struggled over in the past year.

So far I know Sturt and South have had their AGMs.

South announced an operating surplus for the Football Club of $76,000 and $568,000 for the Footballer's Club. They also confirmed a proposed $3m redevelopment of the oval, club and licensed facilities.

The Panthers annual report can be found here

http://safc.com.au/documents/2006safc_annual_report.pdf

For Sturt, the news was as follows:

Unley Community Sports Club Inc posted a loss of $391,186

The Sturt Football Club Inc. posted a loss of $76,886.00

Total loss for the two Entities……$468,072

Also, membership Income was down 18% on 2005 but Sponsorship Income rose 4% this year.

And finally, Ben Colreavy has decided to return home to Claremont, Western Australia for personal reasons.

Apparently, the delays in getting "in" at the Castle Tavern saw Sturt having to stop paying its creditors for a while this year. However, the club anticipates making a combined $500k per year from the Castle Tavern and Bar Zaar.

North's AGM is now held in February (or Late January) so you'll hae to wait a while on ours.
(It takes a while to add up all that money! ;))

Westies returned a combined profit of $138,000, after major depreciation write-offs.

Very healthy Balance Sheet.

From just looking at the annual report it appears a lot more has been spent on the football department this year. i.e. Senior Football costs up $160,000 on last year, Recruitment up $80,000, Junior Football up $60,000 etc. Turnover was a lot greater than last year. The club appears to be in a very healthy position.

Might have a bigger profit next year, with us winning the flag and all, which means merch. sales and some more members.

Just to clarify two small points

Most clubs I know take the profit posted by the licenced club and allocate it to the football club.

So there is rarely a joint profit of adding the two together,

The football club profit usually takes into account the profit from the licenced club.

ie South Adelaides Licenced Club profit went into the Football Club.

After all that is what the licenced club is there for, to provide extra funds for football operations.

Secondly, I would resist the temptation to compare size of profits as a measure of financial success.

A football club is not a public company with profits being paid as dividends

A club can make $2milion profit but have poor facilities

Or make a $30K profit and have better assets and on field success.

The main thing is for profitable clubs to invest available funds wisely into things that will either
- impove playing standards (gym, facilities)
- create long term income (ie lights at Elizabeth)
whilst still making a profit.

Fair call Phil - important to look at both the P & L as well as the Balance Sheet in context no just one

Norwood have released their results today, and the annual report offers some encouraging signs for the Legs. After a loss of $434,686 in 2005, NFC report a loss of $61,533 for 2006; a turnaround of some $373,000.

Major factors included increase in sponsorship/donations of nearly $140,000; membership increase of over $45,000; transfer fee revenue increase of over $101,000 and fundraising increase by over $33,000.

All in all, much more encouraging news than some would have expected - solid news for the club.

Very good news and a very good result, I was expecting a similar loss to last year.
David Wark has done an unbelievable job at that club, easily the shining light at the Parade.
Well done David and staff!

Shock
