Memorabilia for SANFL fans

Postby Dogwatcher » Sat Jan 06, 2007 11:22 pm

Have been in A-Town the past couple of days and in my meanderings have come across some SANFL memorabilia that some people may be interested in.

Forgive me if the descriptions are a bit sketchy, but there were a few beers consumed in various locations during my visit.

First things of interest were a series of SANFL action photos taken at the Adelaide Oval during the 1920s. I found these photos at a place called Market Bazaar just off Rundle Street (that little street where The Church nightclub is opposite Buongiornos). The photos are really beautiful action shots - among those I could recall seeing were a North v South game. Other matches were included also. Reasonably cheap prints - about $8.

I also saw a history book. I think it was celebrating North's 100 year anniversary. The book was located in the book shop on the northern side of Hindley Street (it's somewhere past the Japanese karaoke place). I noticed it in the front window.

I'm not sure if any of this stuff is of interest, but I know how hard it is to come across quality SANFL stuff, so I thought I'd mention it. The pictures I saw would look great framed in someone's bar!

There was an antique shop between the tobacconists & the pub on the other side of Grote Street from Central Market
what used to trade & sell all old SANFL memorabilia (badges, scarfs etc.)
...I dunno if it's still there though!

I take it you don't get to that side of town much Snaggletooth. That's Toss of the Coin. It moved 4 and a half years ago. And the Tobacconist has gone as well

Take a bit of caution with someone advertising in the daily paper "Wanted To Buy" section at the moment for SANFL stuff, pre-1970. Essentially, a time waster. Rang him a couple of months back about some stuff I had. Quoted a price he would pay for it. When rang a few days later to find out when he wanted to buy, had gone cold on things and had not thought to ring me about it in the meantime.
The irony is, the items in question were sold later that week to another SANFL memorabilia buyer for FIVE TIMES what this person had quoted they were worth.

Just to clear this up, the 'antique' store is still there but it specialises in Toys, books and militaria with a number of other stalls. Toss of the Coin was 2 doors east and did move to Unley some years back.

The antique store still sells a few SANFL items but certainly not much and the turnover is pretty low.

Another two places to try for SANFL memorabilia are Philicia Antiques (they will be on the ABC Collectors Show soon I believe) and Kings Park Antiques. Both are just north of McDonalds on Goodwood Rd at Kings Pk - Philicia at the pedestrian lights and KP Antiques between McDonalds and Philicia and both on the east side of Goody Rd.

Just another gentle heads-up on this person; has started advertising again. Would suggest that potential sellers check the prices offered those offered by other sellers. After my experience, I personally wouldn't deal with them again. Appears to want a lot for not a lot back.

made my long overdue visit to A toss of a coin on Aussie day weekend, got myself a couple of Football Times yearbooks too, the 1988 season(replacing my lost copy) and 1985 Season(this is a doozy this one, season 1985 where De-Fense was the thing that went around De-Oval!!) Might dig it up sometime soon and put a '1985' thread on the history board, some great players, shootouts and stories that year, much more interesting than this Crow and Power rot!!!

I saw something Saturday evening at SkyCity that got my attention.

An SANFL 2001 representative jumper with about a dozen siggies... damn I want one. Ah well, just have to settle with my 2006 edition.

I won a $50 ATTOAC voucher but feel like a cheapskate in using it. But I will...
