The Eagles Demerging

This was mentioned briefly on another thread in here, it is suggested that with the influx of poker machine funds comming it that it could be possible in theory to demerge the Eagles, leading to a re-existance of West Torrens Eagles and the Woodville Warriors.
I think that the idea has some merit in theory, yet I think that one of the clubs would have to relocate to make it work, either to the North Eastern Suburbs - were Torrens once had a recruiting zone, or into the Mt Barker area the fastest growing suburb of Adelaide.
Most likely Torrens would be the better choice to stay at Woodville oval and Woodville Warriors the best team to make a relocation. I say that because even though they play the games at the Woodville oval, I think that the current team has more Torrens people involved than folk from the old Woodville Warriors.
What I was once told is that there is a group of Torrens members very keen to see the club relocate to Thebarton, then from there it is a matter of removing the green from the Jumper and they will have their old club back once again. Who knows if that is actually true or not, yet from what I hear on 5AA from time to time there do seem to be members from both the old clubs that are not happy with their situation of how the club merged.
So, is there a possibility that this scenario could happen, that the club could be demerged and the SANFL back to 10 sides again?

So what was the % vote in favour of the merger from both clubs, individually and combined?

wasn't one club broke & the other almost broke ?? & if they merged the sanfl paid out the bills that both teams had & that was the carrot dangled in front of both teams, at least thats how i remember it

As much as would love to see Torrens back..... it would be a step backwards for the league
not enough money and talent around to sustain 10 clubs. The 70s and 80s were plauged by under performers: south, WT & W.
In the 80s I would have called you a liar if you told me we would have a premiership by 1993.

Well said Mickyj. We are one very strong club. This area doesn't need another team as indicated between 1964-1990.

Jarman is just jealous that we have been in more finals series and won one more flag then North has in the same time. If he was involved with our club (as in coaching or being a member of staff), he would feel a little different. The fans that go to our games over the years, support the team no matter what. Sure if it did happen (and I mean if) some would go for one team and some would go for the other and the rest would not go to the SANFL anymore.

Well considering your dominance and the fact North have been strugglers for a long time until the last couple of years... you should have won far more flags than 2.. to think since you came in you have won 2 flags and we have 1 and you have been up the top for ages and we have been down the bottom, it is a pretty poor return.

Well all of that is true .But to me the question is why would a south supporter want to demerge us,perhaps then south could go further in the finals !!

Yes i referring to MightyEagles crap about Jarman being jealous because you have a whole ONE more flag than us.
Not sure why a Southie would want to split you up, and im not sure where that rumour comes from. It would be a huge step backwards if it were to happen.

If Torrens and Woodville split up, would both teams get to play Sturt for the Bob Shearman cup?

If only Bob Shearman spent as much time with the Eagles as his cup does....

I am not suggesting that I want the Eagles to Demerge, the subject was brought up on 5AA and on another thread, so the idea is to have a discussion in theory on the idea.
South could easily have taken the soft option and merged with either Sturt or Westies in the 80's if we wished to, maybe then we would have won several premierships, yet it is my opinion that merging a club to win a premiership makes for somewhat of a hollow victory at best so why bother?

How many years after merging must we wait in order to win a flag that isn't hollow?

None of the flags are hollow mate, no premiership ever is .. It's just opposition supporters (lol and Im as guilty as any) will use any line to take a swipe at another club whether it's true or not!

The cup will have to "sit out of the game" for a year before Sturt can get it back.

Very very True.
