What does every one think of having an Under 18 competition @ SANFL level instead of its current set up of Under 19 and Under 17 competitions ???

The sooner it happens, the better IMO. Too many kids for the SANFL clubs to focus on - elite squads of 60+?

Change the development squads to 14s, 15s and 16s at the same time.

I can understand why people want this to happen and have the 3 games at the same ground and day.
But you have to think about the trainers. Let's say the 18s start at 9am that means that the trainers have to get the ground by 7 and set up and it'll be about 5.30pm when they finish. That's a long day, and it's a long day as it is now, don't make it any longer.

How do the country clubs play 6 games in a day then, granted the younger ones are short games but if you can have three games in a day you need some serious looking at.

Maybe shifts could be drawn up as really if all the people now working with the Under 17's and 19's kept on with the Under 18's there should be plenty of staff on hand. I can see what you're saying though as inevitably people will be roped in to working the whole day.

I like the idea of having the three games on the one day at the same ground.

Im not sure but arent there already seperate trainers for juniors and seniors already @ SANFL level ???

If so the there can be one set of trainers for the Under 18's and the Senior Trainers can still do there job.

I also think this will make it much easier for the many volunteers that help out @ the clubs - one day / one place / all teams.

That's easy to say you wouldn't have to get up at 5-5.30am each weekend.

How come that early ???

Does it take 3.5 to 4 hours to set up as a trainer ???

Keep the trainers from the Under 17's & 19's to do the Under 18's.

Make it free of charge if you enter the ground before 1/2 time of the Under 18's, that way you may to get more of a crowd watching Juniors the ressies.

Having the Under 18's would be in line with Teal Cup, SA may win one.

Gee the old VFL clubs had no problems with U/19s, ressies and ones all on the same day....

You'd find if the all had them on the one day, league would start at 2:20, Ressies at 11:30 and U/18s at 9:00.......match staff arrive at 7:30-8:00 tos et up for the U/18s like they do for triple headers ATM.....

Seriously with teh number of U/19s playing ressies and U/17s playing U/19s the time for and under 18s comp is long overdue.

For the late developers you would allow up to six U/19s to play u/18s as they do for the 2nd Div teams at the U/18s championships.

Seriously any kid who isn't playing ressies footy by the time they are U/19 ain't going to make it, send 'em back to the local clubs....if they are any good or tehy have the desire, they'll get picked up again by a smart club that keeps tabs on them.....not like anyone hasn't made it to league football in the past coming back from the ammos or country footy...Matt Cooper anyone???

Just presume West are playing at Elizabeth or Noarlunga.

For a 9am start, the players would report at about 7.45, the trainers would need to be there at 7.15 to set up. Before that, the amount of time to get up and dressed at home, then drive to Richmond to get ice and gear, then drive to Elizabeth or Noarlunga would be at least an hour and a quarter or a half.

The two of you can keep each other!

That happens only occasionally, at the very worst every second game. What about the added bonus of seeing the senior sides (for free) playing each week, as opposed to score updates that they have been used to, or the trainer who has done underage games for a few years and gets the opportunity to help out with the seniors? What about the runner who gets to watch the seniors go through their warm up and learn something? What about the coach who gets to watch the senior coach go through his game day?

Plus there are the benefits that others have mentioned for the competition as a whole and the more specialised coaching that will become available to the junior players who are the true elite (best 21, not best 42) of their zone.

Stop whinging and look at the bright side!

Okay so West play @ Centrals once a year maybe - havent looked @ the draw ???

I would also think it may be wise to pick up the gear the night before - it would be the sensible the thing to do for away games !!!

Getting dressed wouldnt be a problem as your outfit is already selected !!

I am sure that the longer trips could be shared amongst all the trainers !!!

Most Junior trainers get to finish by 12 oclock !!!

If you're not already a trainer, blueboy, you should volunteer.

The only ones who don't think it's easy are the ones already doing it :)

Simple solution, don't play at Noarlunga or Elizabeth anymore. Is the SANFL listening?

With all due to respect to the trainers, I really dont think their feelings would come into the equation!!!!

Havent you ever had to get up extra early every now and then then for work, uni etc etc....we all do it, its called the real world....if you dont like it dont do it...

Wouldn't it help trainers?
You'd have twice as many volunteers to rotate through the jobs?
Could have people coming and going all day with less work than previous.

I currently sit on a football club committee and coach a senior side and still have a game R&B !!!

I know its not an easy job and volunteers do the brunt of the work !!!

Im just tryn to say you can share the work if this happened - but its only my opinion !!!
