The SANFL Grand Final

It is interesting to wonder what the attendance will be like at the SANFL Grand Final for the next few years. As it stands at present, 35 000 and you have done really well.

Yet how is it then that a few weeks later on the occassion that the hybrid Gaelic Football has been played there that it is a sellout?

Is it because it is something different that only happens once a year? Isnt that then also the case with the SANFL grand final?

What has to happen to reinvigorate the SANFL competition in the eyes of the public that the SANFL Grand Final would be popular enough to be a sellout?

Simple answer, have 2 teams with a strong following aka when Port and Norwood and Port and Sturt had sellouts.

Central would have to be one of the strongest sides, the Eagles are an amalgamation of one stronger, one weakeer and it didnt sell out their game.

What if it happens that one of your teams above does not play one of the other two? There is a good chance that some of the lesser supported teams may well play in the Grand Final for the next several years. How are we going to make those games sellout?

The problem is that when the SANFL comp was king the GF used to be an event, people would go even though their teams weren't playing. Now just the diehard supporters of the clubs that play in the GF go.

However when the Eagles play TV ratings at the nursing homes around Adelaide are through the roof!!!!

INCOMING!!!!

To be honest mate the sooner we merge with Carlton and enter the AFL based at Adelaide Oval the better!

Perhaps Adelaide Oval is the answer once they increase capacity to 37,000.

Combinations of.
North
Port
Sturt
Norwood
Centrals
could very easily draw close to 40,000.

I think it goes back to teh SANFL and each clubs grass roots marketing....to get more to the SANFL gf, you need more members and more at games thru the season...also, the game has to be attractive to the neutral crowd...

the sanfl need to treat its GF like the NFL treat its super bowl....(not as extreme tho as crazy half time shows etc) but it needs to really focus on how much the GF is the pinnacle of the season.

What about an eagles - south, could very easily happen. Could they crack the 10 thousand mark?

they would get 17000 i reckon...hell, id like to see south in the gf but it wouldnt draw many...

if that were the happen, the sanfl should market the game with a theme along the lines of how south are back from 40 years in the wilderness etc...really play that card....that might bring back a few old timers and even some younger sanfl fans...

Nah, the Kangaroos need to take over Carlton.

Take all their players (gulp!)

And give them a little display in a museum at Arden Street.

Sam you can add us to that list too, we played in one of the few finals to draw over 40 000 since 1991 - on a day it was forcast to rain and did....42 100 I think it was to the 92 GF

Not saying we'll be making the GF any time soon but when we do make sure there is plenty of space to park the bandwagon....

Agreed, I think the early game at Glenelg against North this year showed that, one of the few times we've been outnumbered and probably the only time we've been outnumbered by Bays fans in the last decade.

The problem lies in the fact that alot of people only care about the crowsor power and not their local sanfl club. Also the other reason that doesn't help is the fact that the GF is no longer on a long weekend and always on a sunday and bnot a saturday

I think if Glenelg EVER make a GF again, the ex-Glenelg Crows bandwagonners will be back in droves maing it harder for me to buy beer at the club after! :x

There was a lot more Eagles supporters at the 2006 Grand Final than there were the whole season down at Pecker Park!
