Final Five in 2007 - Any new contestants?

Postby Squawk » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:37 pm

There is an old cliche that each year one new team makes the finals and one drops out. If that is to be the case, which team will go in to the five in your view and which one would drop out?

From memory, Eagles, Central, North, South and Port made the finals in 06. Glenelg, West, Norwood and Sturt did not get in.

I would reckon Glenelg in at the expense of South if this 'formula' were to be correct. (Port seemed to have been able to get some good recruits and hence I think they can stay in, whilst South have lost a few key players from their admirable campaign in 2006). West will be one to watch though as well and Norwood have a good list on paper but have struggled with consistency and have a fairly tough draw in 07 IMHO.

I think Glenelg will replace Port in the 5.

Its funny how people try and predict the top five at this early stage of season when all 9 teams should be gunning for a 5 spot. But FWIW Ill go Eagles, North, Glenelg, Norwood and Port in that order.

No one has a crystal ball - just a hypothetical topic I guess. Interesting that you don't think last years runners ups - Centrals - will back up with any decent form in 07?

South's squad, at last, hasn't changed much and their losses are at least covered by their gains.

They would be disappointed if they weren't in the top three.

The only change to 2006, Glenelg could replace either South or Port......but I don't think so.

South have three ins and three outs

Cupido out, Prendergast in = solid gain

Davey out, McGrath in = break even, maybe gain

Krueger out, Maddox in = can't guage, but not going to influence a top 5 result

If we can't improve with a slightly improved list and another year of these guys playing together, I'll be shitty!!

I think this is a big bonus for South - they've had a stable coaching staff and now a stable list. I expect them to make a serious play for the Grand Final along with North this year.

How good was Alwyn Davey last night against the Allstars. That kid should have been recognised as an afl player alot earlier. I know there is a long way to go, but...............

A huge gain for Essendon. You could see when he played for South he was a class act and still very young.
