Conversation between an SANFL official and a de-listed AFL player as a potential recruit for a SANFL club:

Player: “Hello”

Official: “Is that J_ _ _ (Surname protected)?”

Player: “Yes it is”

Official: (After explaining who he was and which club he represented) "I understand you are looking to continue your career in the SANFL. Obviously your Manager has told you to expect a call from us.

Player: “Yep, he told me all the SA clubs would be chasing me.”

Official: (Now slightly bemused by the attitude of the player). Firstly we would like to fly you over to SA and then you can meet with our senior coach and you can find out first hand about our club, our philosophy and talking face to face allows both parties to get a feel for each other…...(Cut off by the player)

Player: Listen don’t worry about that shit – I’ll tell you I ‘m not interested in any contract under $50K so if you are at that mark just send me over a contract.

Official: Sorry we don’t operate like that – see you later. (Official hangs up)

Player in question then signed a few days later with another club for some figure over $50K - apparently this club just sent over the contract offer and he signed - without leaving his lounge room or knowing anything about the club etc and vice-versa. He still allegedly, hasn't meet any club officials including the coach.

Don't assume that North is one of the clubs in question either!

By The Way it is Port Adelaide Magpies you are signing with not Port Power. We are two different clubs you know but try telling our supporters that. When both are winning we are one club.
So that is how we recruit players hmmmm not a bad way to get a player.
