SANFL Clubs and Football Park

Postby Sojourner » Fri Feb 16, 2007 1:25 pm

It seems that the SANFL clubs are in a situation where we each own a share in Football Park, yet are not in a postion to actually use or play on Football Park as it was intended when built.

That is my point right there. Football Park was intended for the use of the 9 SANFL clubs, not to be taken over by the VFL as a venue which is the current situation. The question then is the relevance of ownership of a stadium not for the use of the SANFL clubs.

I dont know what the answer is, yet it seems not the greatest situation to have a quality stadium that we cannot use for the purpose that it was intended. Maybe then there is a case for a second stadium in the Adelaide railyards that is used for the headquarters and promotion of SANFL footy?

Sojourner, the SANFL clubs rely heavily on the distribution of profits from Footy Park.

Even if the SANFL had the money to build a new stadium, which they don't, it wouldn't pay its way being used for SANFL.

Can't you for once just think inside the box soujourner? Keep plugging away mate, the pearler is coming soon.

The SANFL are a bunch of stadium managers and AFL licence holders, with a local competition sitting quite low on their priority list. Times changed, their $$ comes from AFL football not SANFL football so they get to use the oval all of the time.

I reckon the current situation is pretty good - using all of the suburban grounds, with Adelaide Oval hosting most finals.

Christ, anyone remember going to Footy PArk for a SANFL game in the mid 90s?? no bastard there, players had to jump the fence in the outer to get the ball back.

The cost of opening the ground meant the SANFL lost money compared to the gate takings.....No chane sojourner no chance
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I was suggesting to Soujourner on earlier posts that he was losing the plot but I'm nearly convinced he's past that - HE'S GONE ! Try and jump out of that time-warp and join 2007.

What is the problem with discussing where the SANFL should be playing its games and finals?

You suggest that I should join 2007, isnt that the heart of the discussion for the SANFL and Football Park?

If we face having smaller crowds at games, why not play elimination finals at Thebarton instead of Football Park or Adelaide and own the venue at the same time?

'tis a shame, coz back in the 80's regular season matches used to have pretty decent sized crowds @ Footy Park...
Not sell-outs like the old State Games but still a healthy turnout!
