Ground Conditions

Postby Squawk » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:28 pm

We all know only too well how badly decent rains are required atm. I saw some footage tonight of the Sheffield Shield game at Adelaide Oval and the ground appears to be really suffering from a lack of water - lots of dead/brown patchy areas.

I would be interested to hear from all supporters about the current status of their home ground? I'm wondering if the drought has taken effect on SANFL grounds in terms of grass cover and importantly the hardness of the ground. If so, then I wonder if there will be more injuries this season until some decent rains can soften up grounds? I cant see screw-ins being used too often this season atm!

I know Norwood Oval has the benefit of being able to rely on bore water and hence all reports are that the ground is in pretty good nick. Country games and the conditions of those ovals will also be an interesting challenge I suspect.

What's your home ground like and do you think injuries are more likely this season as a result of the drought?

Perhaps they aren't bothering with Adelaide Oval because they are ripping it up soon? Waste of water to keep it green now?

It always gets messy around the cricket pitch, just a problem that's been around for 100 years with sharing grounds.
As far as the rest of the ground goes it holds up better than some others.
You should look a little closer to home ST!

The ovals may look noce and green, but how hard are they? There are usually a few knees getting done early in the season because of the hardness of the ovals, from what I have heard that will line this season up as a real danger until a good rain comes along and softens things up.
I am a long way from home so I could be totally off the mark by saying that, does anyone have any information about it?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
