NA V PA trial

Postby mal » Sat Mar 17, 2007 12:03 am

PA 14-5
NA 10-15

Nice friendly game lots of skills exhibited.
NW got the grog/food profits [and RYSWYK air fares back !!!]

Good to see a fit Josh COULTER playing

3/4 time PA 9-4 NA 8-13
Andrew JARMANS speech to the rooster boys

JARMAN : Bit closer lads, bit closer please.
They controlled the ball for the first 15 minutes, then we controlled the ball
And why did we control the ball ?
PLAYERS: We wanted it etc etc.
JARMAN : Thats right .....
Now we had 41 tackles and 25 hard ball gets so far....
We have 25 minutes left and what I want is complete control of this last quarter.
Good teams need to play 25 minutes at this level or will be no good....
I dont care about the result, I just want control, clean gets , dont worry about handballing I
just want 25 minutes of control.
Come on lads we pride ourselves on fitness and run.....

Great speech , but the lads were outplayed by a more purposeful team on the night.
NA looked good twice during the night to drag back 3 goal deficits, and looked slick.

Who was the Glenelg SAFOOTY spy with a feMALe companion there ?
Who was the larger than life NA SAFOOTY grogger on the hill viewing the game ?

In the 2nd quarter a player was nearly smashed into the wing brick wall.
Its just a matter of time before we get a serious injury at the parade.
Ironically the SANFL head honcho Glen Rosser was a redleg 3 decades ago
and crashed into that brick wall and severly damaged his elbow.
Maybe Mr Rosser should look into this matter.

Thing I couldn't work out was why it was a free kick (to North), if it was at any other ground it wouldn't have been a free kick, it was almost as though the umpire paid a free kick because it was dangerous bumping a player out of bounds near the wall?

And when are you going to come say gudday to Wedgie ya old sly fox Mal? :D

The NA player could have suffered a horrendous injury, he didnt
and the brick wall issue will be swept under the carpet.
The league needs to be proactive and not reactive, its just
a MATTER OF TIME[great song + band] before we have a regrettable incident.

WEDGIE the lads showed some nice skills but little ferosity tonight.
I know its only a scratch match but will they be a free rolling free spirited
attacking team or will they be more accountable team in defensive tactics in 2007 ?

Could you explain this cryptic line a bit more for me?

A detailed description. Is that what you heard and remembered pretty accurately, or are you paraphrasing the general gist?

Cheers mal, but I still don't see why it should be a free kick at one ground because its an unsafe environment, Im not sure the rules cover that.

I love trial games, get together with a dozen or so mates, enjoy the game and don't get stressed at all, I almost wish all games were trials! :D

sploosh, its not hard to remember the crux of Jars speech's so I reckon Mal would be pretty close to the mark, it definately sounds like Jars.

SPLOOSH

RYSWYK was originally flown over by Norwood from QLD.
Somehow NA managed to sign him up.
NW got reimbursed tonight

That was the speech JARS gave the lads, I was observing the huddle.
I was very impressed.
The speech would be about 80% spot on, a few words likely to be altered as I tried
to remember the speech in its entirity.
No frothing from the mouth, no raising of the voice, no swearing, just a great speech.

Mal, Mal, Mal. People have been saying this for the 40 years I've been watching football at Norwood Oval, and nobody has been injured yet. The injury to Glen Rosser of which you speak happened at Unley Oval when he ran into the coaches box.

Good to get a win on the board against a quality side to gain some confidence in the playing group.

For those that could make it, who played well? Who kicked the goals?

I guess there is flexibility in the rules for this sort of thing. There would be rules which suit the 'environment' of the ground. Look at cricket - they play first class matches on that ground in England with a tree that encroaches onto the field and there are rules to cater for that on that particular ground which don't exist elsewhere.

I know that's cricket - but it's an example of something in a sporting arena which is a bit out of the norm.

The other thing is it's probably a preventative measure to give a free kick when someone knocks someone into that wall. Players know a free kick's given, they're less likely to push someone into it, they're less likely to do it.

Ah, I see. I didn't realise that. Yay to whoever the proactive soul at North was who helped Ryswyk find his way to North.

I was interested in what you wrote, because your description closely matches a couple of other reports I read of Jars' speeches at various times in the last couple of years, so clearly that must be his style. Good to see that he employs an intelligent approach, even though it didn't get us the non-existant points last night.

Wedgie, after seeing you guys, we went around to that area to watch the game.

The Port player did swing after they were over the line and even if the wall wasnt there I am sure it was paid because the ball was dead and the tackle continued.

Was at the game last night, down the scoreboard end.

A few North supporters made complete tools of themselves, saying that Hargraves is a useless hack, we can have him, and he shoulda retired after 2001.

We fired back at them, saying he was a cult hero for the Rooster supporters last year. They shut up pretty quick.

Also there were comments of 'C'mon North, it's only Port'. Yeah, who won again?

I must admit, I love going to trials as I just sit back and enjoy being out in the fresh air and to see the new recruits etc. My team may even get a soft clap from time to time and absolutely no stress which is a far cry from the proper season when I go home exhausted and with more grey hair.

But last night some fans were rubbishing there own side ( both North and Port ) and at one point after they both yelled at certain players, I turned and reminded them that this is trial number one and relax and enjoy the game.

Meanwhile, down the other end, more than a few North supporters said g'day to Hargy & had a chat with him.

Who kicked 3 goals for the Pies? Was it LeCras (#20) or Batson (#25)? I thought it was Batson, but others say it was LeCras.

Think it was Batson. Don't remember LeCras kicking many, if any.

Well.....apart from getting "bagged" or "having a chat" with North supporters, how did Hargs go?
Did he look good running around? How did Port use him? Did he look likely to get through the season?
