Tasmania must be crazy. They should concentrate on their own league rather than ship the cream off each week to play thanklessly in Victoria or SA. As for the SANFL, you could almost argue a case for inclusion of the NT. At least geographically it makes a modicum of sense. But considering Tassie is getting a bit desperate I would have thought.

Better off re-instituting Woodville. After Saturday's performance you know it makes sense.

Tassie tried a state league 10 years ago and it failed dismally.

realistically I think they are the best option for a 10th team but given Tasmania's physical closeness and influence from Victoria I think most Tasmanias would prefer their state team paying in the VFL

The flight to Darwin is only 3 1/2 hours...so the article saying 4 hours is factually wrong to start with...why cant they get simple stuff like this right?

Just nice to see that SA is keeping its options open. Every change to the structure of its competition that the AFL makes, creates potential gaps and opportunities; and the SANFL has to be quick on its feet to take them. Whether Tasmania wants to compete in the SANFL is a matter for Tasmania, but from the SANFL's perspective:

· The team would have plenty enough fans, and average SANFL per-match attendances should be fairly stable (with the obvious result that net attendances would go up)
· The club (if well run) would have enough sponsors and be financially stable
· The team should be good enough to compete week-in, week-out without cannibalising the existing SANFL clubs' player base
· The travel costs and time associated would not too badly affect the clubs, league or players

What's not to like? Leigh Whicker is dead right to say that an even-numbered competition is preferable. Now that all existing 9 clubs have reached financial stability (7 clubs) or are heading for it (2 clubs), any further talk of mergers is crazy-talk. It's just a case of weighing up the best option for a 10th team.

If it happens I think that it will be because the Kangaroos will no longer use the Devils as their reserve side due to the restructurinig of the VFL. Logisitically allocating North Melbourne players to play and train in Tasmania is a nightmare, so when the review of all the state leagues is looked at, that is likely to be an area where a correction is made.

It could be worth doing it for a season to see if it works, if successfull it may well increase interest in the SANFL, yet the strength of the team may be interesting, Tasmania flogged the SANFL last time, so I am not sure what level they are at now, weaker, stronger or the same?

Yeah i dont think so. I think it makes more sense geographically to have Tassie join ahead of NT. Our season is in NTs off season. I can see quite a few dramas with that.

Thats if you go through Melbourne. Cant fly to Hobart from Adelaide with Jetstar. You have to change airports in Melbourne too.

Its Stupid QANTAS allround no direct flights at all from Adelaide all via Melbourne/Sydney (& Brisbane/Perth/Darwin probably too )

thats from and adelaide point of view....Adelaide is Darwin's closest capital city therefore I can see why they want to play here...plus Im sure we have much more economic connections to NT than TAS also which would be a factor with sponsors etc

I think it's a better idea having a Tassie side in than the NT. Much more cheaper to do and of course the seasons are the same.

Virgin Blue deffinatley the go, i use them during the A-League season, always very happy with them to.
